Thanks for the input
While we are on the topic of dining at WDW, has anyone taken advantage of the free dining plan Disney has been offering for the last few years?

I've used it in a few different iterations. They've offered it for at least 10 years now. On our honeymoon in January 2006, we took it. But back then, each person got an appetizer, entree and dessert and gratuity was INCLUDED. We didn't use all our snack credits and were absolutely as full as possible the last night of our trip and could barely touch our dinner at the Whispering Canyon Cafe. The server actually thought something was wrong with our meal until we explained the situation.
I've also used it since they removed gratuity from the package and changed it to each person getting a dessert and no appetizers. I will say that it's probably the reason I've tried so many of the restaurants on property. But, if you're going during Food & Wine, you may be better off taking a discount on the rooms (assuming Disney is offering one which they typically do) since you will probably spend a LOT of time eating at the booths in Epcot. If you aren't going during F&W, then it's a slightly different situation. It's an either/or thing with them....you can't have both. So, if they ARE offering discounted rooms while you're there, I would go with that.
If you DO go with the dining package, you can use your snack credits at the booths at F&W for food. Personally, I don't think it's a good a value now as it used to be. But, you have to decide on whether or not you would be going to a "table service" restaurant at least once a day. Typically, we wouldn't....so it doesn't seem to make as much sense for us anymore.

We had it last year. Be prepared to eat. We rarely used our snacks in the park. On our last day we ended up just buying drinks and cookies from the hotel gift shop.

Honestly, I've seen this happen MANY MANY times.

Last time we went was in '08. I can't remember if we got app, entree, and dessert included in our meal plan or just entree and dessert. We did the one quick service, one table service, and one snack dining plan then and we will do the same this year. I think the next plan up is 3 quick service or table service (your choice) and two snacks. I just can't imagine spending that much time in restaurants, if you choose to do 3 table services meals, when there are so many other things to do and see at WDW.
Our last day we had a lot of snacks left over too. My ol lady and I went with my two sisters and their families and there were a total of 9 of us. Each person had 1 snack leftover, some had 2 snacks left so we just bought a bunch of bottles sodas, fruits, etc at our resort before we left.

Mama Melrose's in Hollywood Studios was the best restaurant we ate at when we went for Halloween this past year. Tastes may differ of course, but we liked this one the most.

No good places to eat except the place on top of the contemporary. People will say I'm wrong but if you have good taste listen to me. It's not horrible
Mind you, it's just Olive Garden quality at commanders palace prices so eat in downtown Orlando
Or, the one Disney exception is downtown Disney it's a little better there.

Don't worry about the food. It's Disney and won't stand up to real places.
I liked one of the beers in Norway, can't remember which, just buy both.

Well, you are wrong. There's plenty of places in Disney that could stand on their own. Hollywood Brown Derby, Jiko, Yachtsman Steakhouse, Victoria and Alberts, LeCellier, the hibachi place in Japan just to name a few. They've gotten much better over the past few years.

Good choices, but Liberty Tree will be closed while he's there: LINK

Yeah you are very wrong. Most of the signature restaurants can stand on their own. Victoria & Alberts can stand against anything in the US. Via Napoli makes a mighty fine pizza as well.

Agreed! We are doing an (almost)all signature dining trip this year. With the Fatty Drunk Fest going on when we are there, we just booked dining res for the days that we will not be in EPCOT all day. We are doing Cali Grill, Hollywood Brown Derby, Citrico's, LeCellier, and the Yachtsman. Of course we will be at ESPN Club for the Syracuse and Eastern Michigan games. That is a MUST DO.
