Their Scotch Porter and their RIS were both awesome. The scotch-porter was called Derrailler and the RIS was called Palmares I think. I also had the barrel aged versions of them and their Pumkin beer was very solid. They also have a "double red" that was very good and tasted the barrell aged version and it was outstanding. I know those barrell aged versions are not going to be easy to find but I like them because they brought all of their best stuff to the dance and their whole team was awesome.

for sure. they are hosting a bike ride this saturday in Sugar land that ends at Whole Foods and then they are having their beer availalbe for everyone after the ride. I'm still trying to figure out how to skip the ride and just get the beer.

Damn, I'm not a cyclist but if we weren't heading back to LA this weekend, I'd borrow my buddy's just to participate and try them out.

Cyclers Brewing Twitter Page

looks like they are canning 55-11 Imperial Red. not sure about distribution.

I may go do the ride on Saturday. they aren't starting till noon so it should be warmed up by then. hopefully they bring their good stuff. Derailler is one of my favorite all time beers

it worries me too

in dallas for instance, there are now 12 breweries locally and I saw in the paper the other day where 15 permits have been issued for more in the next year.

it just becomes watered down after a while, I don't see how they can all stay in business. the average person IMO cant tell the difference in a lager from brewery A vs brwery B

same for wine. I trick my bro in law all the time with my cheap wine and hes a director for a big time wine distributor.

You have to factor in that Dallas is a huge city and 12 breweries is not a large number. You have to remember that the number of people drinking craft beer is also going up. I think someone posted a statistic last week showing how craft beer now outsells Budweiser. Given that 30 years ago, Bud, Miller, and Coors had 90% of the market, that's pretty good.

I will bet we have more than 15 permits for new breweries here in Portland, and Portland isn't nearly the size of Dallas and has 5 times as many breweries.

Also, a number of those new breweries will probably be brewpubs that only sell their stuff on premise. It will be like another restaurant/bar opening up.

15 new permits is a good thing for everyone except for the 12 existing breweries who are not brewing great beers.

Sugar land

I remember when Sugarland was nice. :sigh:

Back on point, it has reached the point of "too much" for me, partly because half the stuff I end up liking is never to be found again, so I'm somewhat frustrated with the industry.

I think that's just in Portland. But the BMC market share has fell something like 20-30% nationwide.

Nope, thats nationally. Jax is 100% right, craft out sells bud as a whole.

I've been "enjoying" me some Corona Light and Miller Lite lately for weigh in purposes.

I just cut out beer during the week since January 1. I will have 2-3 good beer on Friday and Saturday. I refuse to drink piss just to weigh in. it won't make that much difference.

But if you go to those breweries on a weekend, you sometimes can't get in its so crowded. The ability to sell directly to the public makes a huge difference in the brewers bottom line. And it's not just mavens going to the breweries and drinking craft beer. It's average, mainstream people. You don't have to geek out and know a lager from a pilsner from a Pale Ale to enjoy drinking them.....at least that's what I've heard.

I hear ya.

I'm doing weight watchers and I can have 2 Miller Lites for 7 points or 2 Goose Islands for 10.

You are probably right, but I am obsessed right now until I hit my target weight.
