El Tapatio on HWY 14 has the best Mexican food in town FWIW.
I've never had a bad meal at Mazen's, and I've been going there for over 15 years.
Luna downtown has good salads and tuna dishes.
Pujo street is overrated IMO.
If you want a great lunch go to Darrel's on College St. Best sandwich in town is the special with jalapeno mayo.
Tony's Pizza on Prien Lake is my go to for pizza. A lot of higher quality, imported ingredients and very friendly and attentive staff. They also do a 6" inch pizza and salad lunch special that they serve quickly and for around $7 if I remember correctly.
Pronia's on Kirkman isn't in the best area of town, but I never feel scared going there either. They have the best muffaletta in town, hands down.
If you want to try some local boudin the Market Basket on Nelson Rd. smokes their in-store made boudin and it's got a great flavor, more rice than meat fwiw. My personal favorite boudin in LC is Homsi's, which has two locations. The one on Kirkman has an excellent beer and wine selection as well.

Mazen's-agree about 10 years for me. Never a bad meal there.
Luna-ate there two times. Last time dish was over-salted.
Pujo Street and Pats are overated. Agree
Darrel's-agree
Tony's-OK, but better pizza can be found in many other towns.
Pronia's-agree. Muffaletta is solid.
Homsi's- The boudin is very good. Check the dates on his international beers. Quite a few of them are quite old. Lyle Sonnier is the guy who make Market Basket's boudin for 18 years. He opened his own market on North Simmons Street. Around the corner on Moeling Street is Smitty's Grocery. Best plate lunches in LC. FWIW. Take out only.
I will give El Tapico a try. Only like Cancun thusfar. I also eat at Cotton's, Nina P's, Steamboat Bill's and Seafood Palace.
Thanks for the good review.

Back in Lake Charles for business, pulled up this thread and headed for Mazen's. Been nearly 10 years since my stint of working here, and damn, where was this place then? From the heavy pour on my glass of wine, through the best kibbe I've ever had, to the incredible crab crepe, to their surf and turf featuring a solid filet but an out of the park panned grouper, one of the best meals I've had In a long time, and that includes some of the big names in New Orleans. If you're a sauce person, do not miss this restaurant. And they claim that their sister location in Lafayette has the same menu and the same quality. I would not hesitate to drive and hour to eat here again.

The Lafayette location is indeed very good. Solid steaks and fresh fish cooked right. I have family in Lafayette and I've dined at the Mazen location there numerous times. The avocado and crabmeat app is great.

May have to skip Darrels this trip.... Those 2 on the same day would destroy my P90X momentum!

I think it used to be on Enterprise. I remember it was in a somewhat shady neighborhood, didn't have a liquor license, but the walls were covered in wine corks they'd popped over the years

That would be a miss. Damn, that surf and turf last week was one awesome sandwich.

No doubt. BTW, went to Mazen's both nights, asked for the same server (she was terrific both nights). I had the fish Aladdin again, since it featured grouper, and it was outstanding. They are generous with the lump crabmeat. Dinner companion had the Veal Oscar, and although it was good, there was actually too much sauce. Their sauces are all outstanding, but it covered up the delicate taste of the veal. And the souffle (half and half chocolate and Grand Marnier) was a nice ending to a couple of good nights.
