Glad to see this thread getting some action again. I’ve been going through the southern draw sampler pack I grabbed recently, and it has been a treat.
This one was a star, but the Rose of Sharon is their absolute best so far. Jacob’s ladder was good, but it was a nicotine bomb. My weak arse couldn’t finish it.

Latest order arrived today.
Trinidad Espiritu #1
Dunbarton Red Meat Lovers
Joya de Nicaragua Antano 1970
Tatuaje Havana. VI
Also trying out a variety of full bodied cigars, mostly pepper bombs, but also some aged maduros, from this firm in Austin, Texas. I did some research into their blends, and I think, don’t know, I’ll be happy.

My latest "find" has been the Southern Draw Reserva 1876 with the Connecticut wrapper. I got a tenner off of CP of the robusto, liked them so much I got a whole bunch more of the Churchill. I am having a difficult time of keeping my mitts off of them. They are, to me, the next best thing to Southern Draw's 300 Hands which have all been sold.
Southern Draw's main lines are great too, don't misunderstand, but the 300 Hands, and now the Reserva are much less expensive, especially if you can catch a CP special.
HVC Pan Caliente is also pretty good, and again, reasonable when you catch a special.
Last evening during the Stanley Cup final game I had a New World Connecticut toro and a Florida Man Santiago.

There was a time when that Perdomo Fresco Maduro along with the La Vieja Habana from Drew could be had for less than $2.00 a stick. They were the best deals in all of cigardom.

I have become a Southern Draw fanboy. I’ve been tryin their entire line, and so far every one I have had I have loved. Each stick is incredibly unique and delicious in its own way. Rose of Sharon, Kudzu and Cedrus are my favorites so far, but honestly they all have been superb. Jacob’s Ladder and Manzanita were very good, but they had a massive nicotine punch. I’m too weak for those
I recently had a CLE Azabache, and that was a banger too. I highly recommend trying one
Southern Draw though is now my favorite line. Glad to see another fan : cheers:

Bumping since I’ve been interested in cigars and have been browsing this thread.
I bought a AF sungrown Magnum R 56 the other day, I enjoyed it in general but it need constant work to stay lit and also it wanted to burn unevenly, kind of took away from the experience. I had trouble getting an even light which may have contributed
Any tips for a new smoker to avoid and or work through this situation?

A good burn isn’t always due to user error, could’ve just been bad construction.
Humidity plays a large role. Depending on where you live the cigar may have been stored too humid and that affected its ability to stay lit and even.
The initial light up is also crucial. Toasting the foot evenly and ensuring you get the all of the filler, binder, and wrapper lit together goes a long way.
Lastly, just keeping a nice slow tempo with your draws. I find that smoking too fast especially with a cigar that may needed to have rested some or if it’s a colder/windy day can cause serious tunneling issues where the filler leaves start to burn faster than the wrapper and you keep having to touch it up.
That typically happens with me if I get some cigars in and don’t let them rest in the humidor for a few weeks to get the entire cigar at the same humidity and the wrapper mostly absorbs the humidity instead of penetrating into the filler.
If you’re using a torch lighter try not to let the flame directly touch the tobacco and just let the heat hit it indirectly when lighting. If using a soft flame you can be less careful. I’d start by toasting the foot with the cigar not in your mouth to get it warmed up then transition into holding the stick in your mouth and rotating it while lighting and get some draws in to warm it up even more. Just make sure you aren’t leaning over the stogie so you keep your eyebrows.

Just had some new boxes of Plasencia come in: 151 and Reserva.
Not sure how long I'll be able to stay away and let them acclimate lol.

Got back from the Virgin Islands a couple weeks ago. While there i wanted to smoke a cigar. The ONLY cigars i could find where at the banana daquiri shop @ mountain top in St. Thomas. Their selection was really only 2 cigars, one with no wrapper or name, the other with a brand i never heard of. Being a US territory, i assume you still can't get cubans in the USVI, but maybe BVI. Anyway, bought the cigars, but the store had no cutter. I hauled these cigars around the entire week and not a single bar or place had a cigar cutter. Ended up bringing them home and smoked one. It was unremarkable. I did however, order some more cigars. I ended up buying my order twice by accident and decided to just keep both orders. Excited to smoke one of these this weekend.
10 - Liga Privada No. 9 Robusto Oscuro
10 - San Cristobal Papagayo
5 - Tatuaje Nuevitas Jibaro #1 Robusto Extra
5 - Tatuaje Nuevitas Esteli Robusto
Tatuaje are some of my favorite cigars outside of Padron at a fraction of the cost. Never had the Liga or the San Cristobal. Liga's were a big pricey, but they didn't come with cellophane wrappers so i'll let those age out a bit before smoking.

ETA: Going to fire up a toscanello natural this evening. Too hot to smoke a full sized stick.
