We went to the Bardog Tavern last year over Memorial Day weekend. It was a cool bar downtown. Watched a couple of slightly grown up Ole Miss fratstars get in a fight, which is always entertaining.

I like Central, BBQ Shop, and Germantown Commissary the best.

Gus's trumps all, though. Uncle Lou's is also very good for "dipped" chicken.

Uncle Lou's is good and also unique compared to any other fried chicken I've ever eaten. Gus's is just fried chicken and nothing special.

That is just my opinion.

No one ever listens to me, but if you end up in Germantown, you should eat at Las Tortugas Deli Mexicana. Especially for lunch.

As a native Memphian I prefer Tops BBQ.

Also, Jack Pirtles > Gus's

You're fricking high.

Gus's is the best. Lou's is okay and Pirtles is good but nothing more than KFC and that's bc it was a branch of the original KFC franchises so it's literally the same exact recipe.

Tops' sis okay...burger is great.

OP, you want to go to rendezvous for the experience. Paynes for the sandwhich, cozy corner for the Cornish hen and rib tips and central for all around good BBQ. New place on south main opened called Rayz and it's actually very delicious.

Very involved in this city culinary wise and grew up in Memphis.

Pretty good list there. I'd say Tom's for the rib tips though. Central is where I send people who want chicken

I'd add Alex's tavern for hot wings.

Anyone who says Gus's sucks or isn't the best cannot be taken seriously when it comes to taste. I've eaten all of the so-called "best" fried chicken joints from Willie Mae's to Lorman Country Store to Yardbird to Uncle Lou's and everything in between, and none of them compare to Gus's, and it's really not close.

Hit up Silky's for a couple beers and apps yesterday afternoon. Cool place. Drunkenly stumbled into "Blues City Cafe" around midnight and had one of the worst meals of my life there. Bad.

Any breakfast/hair of the dog recommendations?

The arcade for breakfast, it's not far from downtown

And yea you stumbled into a trap. The food on Beale proper is rough

Expected more of Beale St. Pink pig had decent pulled pork. Wasn't impressed with Central BBQ.
