To throw another restaurant out there: Ruffinos. It’s not a steakhouse per se, but I’ve always had a good meal there with a good, comfortable atmosphere. May not be the best steak, but it’s not gonna be bad. And I’m suggesting it because of the at atmosphere you described.

If you end up at Ruffinos do yourself a favor and get the crawfish cheesecake.

French market bistro has great drinks and I think their steaks are great. Served Ruth’s style on a hot plate. Has a nice variety.

Thanks for all the advice in this thread. I decided on Louisiana Lagniappe tomorrow night and Ruffinos Saturday night.

You really can’t go wrong with Ruth’s.

Solid choices. You will eat well. Don't limit yourself to the steaks.

Stroubes is good especially if you are staying downtown. I don't understand all of the hate here.

Ruth's Chris is heads and tails better than any other steakhouse in BR and I've been to all of them.
Ruffino's and LL are good choices as other posters have noted.

French Market Bistro is by far better than Lagniappe and I like both.

French Market Bistro and Manurs have the same owners with FMB having a more limited menu. Both are good. FMB has a nice steak plate.
Ruffinos used to precook steaks sous vide then sear to order. I don't know if they still do. I prefer old-style true broil.
Unfortunately, FMB & Ruffinos are both on Highland near I-10 exit... traffic can be miserable.
