Oyster/shrimp loaf or poboy

As time goes by Iam starting to enjoy an oyster or shrimp loaf more than a poboy because so many places don’t have good poboy bread. Their po -boy is like eating a huge crouton. And the seafood is lost in the bread. And yes I have all my natural teeth since birth.

So what do y’all think about this issue?
And who has the best oyster loaf or soft oyster poboy in Lafayette area?

I’m partial to Olde Tyme, but my nephew loves Pop’s Poboys.

Only place I’ll get an oyster loaf is Casamento’s in NOLA…

Yea I love Ole Tyme for all but shrimp and oyster poboy. Really like Shucks in Abbeville for oyster loaf. Love Chis’ but always get the special or muffelatto.

And it's a major disappointment.

The poboy bread will make or break a restaurant in my opinion. I ordered a poboy for the first time at a restaurant that I had already been to and liked and it came out on a hoagie bun. I was so let down and have only been back once because that’s where the group wanted to go.

In New Orleans an “oyster loaf” used to be and entire large full loaf of po-boy bread with fried oysters and butter on the bread. Served with lemon wedges, pickles and hot sauce. The old version of College Inn had a mural their building. I do really love the Casamento’s style seafood loaves.

Maybe to you, but they manage to sell thousands annually. I’d doubt all their repeat customers share your disappointment…

I'm partial to Rocky & Carlos po-boys. Pretty sure they use Leidenheimer bread for their sandwiches and the bread is always fresh with a crispy crust like a po-boy should be.

I find most store made breads lack in the overall texture of a good French Bread but have found Dorignac's St. Joseph's French bread to be one of the best store made loaves of bread for po-boys.

It’s the extra held in the old yatty lady armpit touch that does it.

Been there in last few years and thought the bread was too much and too baked. Not warm and soft.

Interesting, the bread was one of the reasons I thought it was so good, along with a ton of oysters, and it was warm and soft back then.

Not a fan of the Casamento's texas toast oyster "loaf", but the fried oysters themselves are excellent.
Drago's in Fat City is excellent for an oyster poboy.

There’s a little place in Bay St. Louis right off the interstate, MacBe Seafood. I was told it was run by a couple retired NOLA firefighters, but don’t know. Anyway, they hollow out a solid loaf of white bread and toast it with butter. Like a big buttered toast. Then stuff it with fried oysters, shrimp, and/or fish. It’s pretty good. Hole in the wall type joint, but I enjoyed it.
