Phares' is OK BUT OVERPRICED the best restaurant in the city, but is kind of still an unknown. DON'T Get the charbroiled oysters (WAY TOO SALTY).

don't listen to this crap. Phare's is amazing and no one knows about it. The only overrated restaurant on this board is Charlie G's

Tsunami does get some hate here, but get a bone in ribeye. If you don't like it, your dog will at least appreciate the bone.

Does La Fonda still do fried rabbit? Always enjoyed that with my margarita. But others are right, the food there isn't that great.

fried rabbit and margaritas are the only things I've ever had there

I'll be the first to hate on Tsunami, the fish selection is horrible and what they do have usually isn't very fresh. I can't comment on the steak.

Charlie Gs does suck, at least it has the two times I've been there since I moved back. I've not eaten at Phares, but I did go to the Culinary Classic a couple of weeks ago and they had a few things in the competition. My wife loved them, and I thought they were very good. We may try to have dinner there this week.

this

lafondas is more a social thing. All the rich people have to be seen in this place if u know what I mean. With that said the food isn't good other than what he said (fried rabbit and chicken) margaritis are good that's it. The bone-in ribeye is out of this world.

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes!!!

This is, unfortunately, true. Anyone who thinks it is Imonnelli, is a jumbo lump crab meat junkie. I went there recently. They had eight, EIGHT dinner specials. Every single one was "topped with jumbo lump crab meat."

Yes Alesi's is still around and good. Still tossing pies in the big picture window. I don't believe the place has changed in 40 years.

Not sure if I saw Deano's on the list for pizza. My favorite is Pizza Village but Deano's comes in a very close second. The wait at Pizza Village can sometimes be ridiculous.

Also Ole Tyme Grocery for Poboys.

Welcome to Lafayette

Great Harvest Bread Company, it's not far from my house and a decent lunch place.

BTW, I hammered some Lafonda's margaritas and fried rabbit last night.

Also in Lafayette...

- Another Broken Egg is great for breakfast. The food there is better than at most of the other locations that I have been to.

- Zeus Cafe is great for Greek/Lebanese, with a number of locations

- Edie's biscuits rock

- Zea's is always excellent

Black's seems like it's under new ownership every time I go and it's been living off reputation for the last 10 years. Phares' is owned by the same people as Shuck's I believe.

Pretty much true. My opinion of Black's goes back to the early 2000's when I went to school down the road from the restaurant.

Phares' is owned by the son of the owner of Shuck's, but I see the dad in there every now and then.

Speaking of places living off of their legacy.... Went to Charlie G's a few times, never hated it, but was never impressed. Definitely not worth the money.

Get the charbroiled oysters, seriously. Also, the ribeye is mediocre, but the filet is good. However not getting seafood is a poor decision. The stuffed fish (you will know what I'm talking about when you read the menu, but the name escapes me) is my favorite dish there.

Lafondas is just the trashier/drunker version of Don's. Not saying it's trashy, but I like slamming a few back at Don's more than at lafonda's. However, it should be noted that I'm a big fan of old fashioneds and they make a superb one at Don's.

Great harvest is good, old tyme grocery is the tits.
