Oh dear!!!

Peche is a great value, but their whole fish went from like $28 to $48 in what seemed like overnight.

I went Thursday and noticed the whole fish was $55. But the size of the fish was 2.5-3 lbs.

I got a bunch of small plates instead.

Whole fish the other night was $61. Forgot what type it was, but it would have to be the last of its kind for those dollars.

Pascal's Manale

I went about five years ago when I first moved to New Orleans and it was bad. I have not heard or read a good review of the place since. I think it's holding as the originator of the BBQ shrimp (allegedly), but it's just not very good.

Wednesday the whole speckled trout was $47 and the snapper was $61.

I just can't see myself buying a $47 speck.

+1 last time I went in January I thought to myself "man the accolades are starting to reflect in price" .. at least the quality and quantities of everything we ate was still worthy of all the praise the place gets. hope it stays that way.

I grabbed tuna crudo, ceviche, bbq chicken, beets and cauliflower casserole. I think it was cheaper that way, and it was delicious.

Isn't the whole fish meant to be shared? I'm headed there in a several weeks and I really want to try it, but if the rest of the table isn't interested, I might not order it.

WTF? I can get it cheaper up here at some decent places. Y'all are closer to the source too.

Got that BBQ chicken for the fist time. DAMN it was good. Also ordered the beef tartare. First time I ventured away form the seafood and I wasn't dissapointed.

It's not that they are too mean, but the tone of them, to steal one of her words, is "tacky".

Confirmed they'll have this after Lent. It was killing me that I couldn't try it the other night.

Hmm. I kind of get what you're saying, but I still think "dour" may be a better description. I still like the "Gloomy Gourmet" description too. They almost come off as "I don't know why I'm here, and I'd rather not be, but here's what I think of this place."

Here's my picture of nikinik writing a review:

It's funny to order non-seafood items at Peche, but they're some of the best small plates on the menu.

The BBQ chicken, tartare, and a few others are off the charts.

R2R- did you ever try Sammich or is this part of your usual smearing before trying routine?

I've only ever gotten the small items. I am sure the whole fish or another entrée is delicious, but it just isn't my thing as much as snacking on a bunch of small things is.

Peche is absolutely a great value when going that route, and I hope that never changes.

I remember the first time we went, we ordered more than we could even eat and it was $54.

The other 3-4 times I've been since then were more expensive only due to several rounds of drinks.

I've said it before, but this is the best thing I've had there.

LE: Eh. I may not agree with every complaint niknik has made with some places, but I wouldn't say her reviews are "tacky". She explains them enough to at least decide on your own if it is a dealbreaker or not. She doesn't get on here giving places a C- without an explanation. I'd rather what she does over, "That place is shite!!" and no reason why
