It probably won’t succeed, but we don’t have a German restaurant. Personally, I like German food, but I suspect there aren’t enough of me to make one profitable in BR.
I like it too, but unless they went all in and made it a popular spot to drink too, I agree it probably wouldn't do too well. Which sucks because I love the food.
Now, model it after Bangers on Rainey Street in Austin? Money printing machine.
That's the thing. More and more, it seems like the truly popular/successful places require some sort of schtick.. often meaning dumping tons of money into it.
Gone are the days of opening a no-frills neighborhood joint like George's and it being successful for years to come, I'd guess. Those places have long standing customers who aren't moving, and the people who flock to flashier places aren't going.
Unless you find a really good niche that doesn't need the frills (like a legit NY deli), sadly it seems like the wider BR crowds want places with atmosphere beyond just food.

Not enough folks from Alabama here to support that.

The pizza scene in BR is rough. I'd start there. Although, I'm not sure most residents even know what good pizza is
For instance, they'll be lining up when the new fleur de lis opens and probably waiting up to an hour for the most mediocre pizza one can find. They also think red Zeppelin is the best in the city, and they use a frozen dough.

Mellow Mushroom was so good but it’s no longer there. I’d say at one point it was the best pizza place in BR.
And years ago there was a place on Staring Lane called Pepperonis. It was awesome. Also no longer there anymore.

They screwed that place up with loud music and bands and chased people off that wanted to sit down and eat. They had a good thing and ruined themselves.

Loud music and bands wasn’t a nightly thing. I think that was more for LSU football games and maybe some occasional weekend live music.

D'Angelo blew up in the 1990s offering pretty legit NY style pizza. Sadly he spread himself way too thin and quickly started shirking quality -- which may have either stemmed from or lead to various family squabbles.

The DeAngelo’s Prairieville location off I-10 was still very solid up until around 2018 or so before it finally close down.

It was frequently during the week. I'd go by after running the lakes after work and the band would be bangin before I left.. so it was during the week and they'd start early in the evening. They were chasing tables of families with kids out so they could listen to bad, loud music. Damn shame.

I don’t think BR knows what good food is - but there are plenty of cities like that.

Isn’t Bistro Italia the DeAngelo family?

Rocca is fancy pizza, which is fine. But for the life of me I don’t know why there isn’t just a good neighborhood pizza joint. You don’t need an $80K custom pizza oven to make good pie.

Italian cold sandwich joint like Francolini's in New Orleans.
Would be awesome but sadly I don’t think people in BR would appreciate a place like that.

I don't know.. there was a good place on Sherwood Forest called Roma Deli that served similar Italian sandwiches. It did very well, but closed in 2009 and still gets mentioned here. Good Italian does very well in Baton Rouge.

If you like the fresh bread, charcuterie, etc., BLDG5 has been very successful. Location is kind of niche so that would be key but the food is great. Small market within the restaurant. For the love of anything…please include a decent draft beer selection

What part of Florida are you from?

They're opening a 2nd location where the old Burger King was at Lobdell and Jefferson too.
