Nashville should have Bear Republic beers/Racer 5 available somewhere? Then again, isn't Tenn a state/liqourstore state? I went to a few decent stripmall stores in Franklin..I forget.

Pliny The Elder rarely found outside of Cali, but some Yardhouse Restaurants(based out of SD-Cali) have hard to find small Cali microbrew lines like Russian River and Firestone-Walker,etc..

TheRoarRestored,

Can you give me any idea what pliny the elder tastes like compared to abita amber, canebrake, modelo, st paulie wheat beer etc. Have heard it mentioned a lot and reason I ask is because my sister lives out in California and comes home a couple times a year and thougj about getting her to bring some with her next trip.

Beer tastes like shite to you but you want to know what the deal is with a tiny microbrew out of Lafayette?

"I hate bourbon so what's the deal with Pappy Van Winkle?"

I mean, why do you care at this point? Clearly a slightly better than average ale isn't going to turn you into a beer drinker if beer itself "tastes like shite." There's no miracle to be found in Canebrake.

Pliny The Elder, and The Younger, to me, much like say Racer 5, have this crisp lighter IPA taste. Maybe it's the access to such fresh produce? The citrus, piney flavors, water?

I'm not some sophisticated critic, I just know good and great when I taste it. And I tend to grade the MegaHoppy brews with harsh bite much lower like say Clown Shoes Hoppy Feet,etc..

If your sister brings home some Russian River, Bear Republic, and Firestone-Walker brew..your beer fiend chums will love you!

I love the threads about Canebrake.

You have the BMC crowd who thinks they just discovered the greatest beer of all time. You have the "too cool for school" crowd who has to hate on it because of it's popularity, and then you have the reasonable crowd who understand that it is a good local beer that is easily consumed and should be supported.

I fall into this camp. Good, but by no means great, beer and so much better than BMC stuff. I also think it is better than any of Abita's regular offerings. I really think that this year Parish will emerge as the best brewery in LA. And no Lester, not because they are cool and hip, but because of quality.
