Rock-Paper-Taco
I went two Saturday's ago and was blown away by how delicious 2 of the 4 tacos I had. I had the blackened shrimp (coursey) and the Perkins (fried chicken)... not the chicken and waffle taco. This shite was awesome!
We also had a pork taco and steak taco but they were meh.
I loved the shrimp and fried chicken taco so much, i went last saturday. I was disappointed big time... My thoery:
1. Two weeks ago had two people working versus 1 last weekend
2. It also appeared to be totally different personnel completely
I think that sets up for inconsistencies and that sucks.
Not judging the man last weekend but completely forgetting to put the sauce that ties the perkins together is amateur! The blackened shrimp taco was totally different tasting than the two chefs from two weeks ago.
I wish i would have experienced the second outing on my first visit. The first outing set the bar so high.

They won’t be. I believe many of them are closed on Sundays. Which I’m not sure why that pissed off the poster above.
Who said i was pissed?
We pulled up on Sunday at lunch, wondered why people were walking in and immediately walking out. Walked in and saw most vendors were closed so we left too. Didn't really care for the vibe of a fancy mall food court so I doubt we go back... that's all

They are incredibly popular in pretty much every major city in the US but oh well suit yourself.

Ok...
By that logic we should all like what “pretty much every major city in the US” likes?
No thx... enjoy your fancy mall food court

I must have missed the other cooks you speak of.. because every taco I tried was just .. kind of there. Nothing really stood out..

I finally went and checked it out today with my s.o. We tried two types of ramen, one of the bao, and the wings from Chow Yum Phat. It was a whole lotta meh. The ramen was mediocre at best, nowhere near the level of the Hangover at Umami (which I consider to be the best ramen in BR). The wings looked great, but the flavors didn't wow me at all. Bao was nothing special. They were out of dumplings so I couldn't try them. Wouldn't go back here.
Also tried each of the 5 tacos at Govt. Taco, and their street corn. All of the tacos were decent, with the catfish one being the standout. Corn was really good, probably the best thing I had today.
Truth be told I could've just eaten 6 ears of the corn and would've left more satisfied.

I like the ramen broth a lot at Chow Yum Phat and the pork belly was really good. But I don't like the noodles that come with it...they're too rubbery or something. I agree that it isn't quite as good as the Hangover ramen at Umami. But White Star is a couple of blocks from my house and Umami ain't.
I'm looking forward to Soji opening. Hope they have good ramen there.

I hear ya. The bowl of ramen was not anything to write home about. The dumplings looked the best in the pics online but they werent available either
Didnt try the tacos. Im not a fan of those types of tacos

Me too. That place should have some legit food

I'm surprised at how hard people are coming down on the ramen. Having had a ton of ramen, it's certainly not the best I've ever had, but it's above average. It's a different style from Umami's, though.
With that said, I'm extremely excited about Soji.

Heck, id even put the ramen at 9 Dragon Noodle House ahead of what I had today.

Then they must have had an off day. I've had the Ronin's at White Star twice and it was vastly better than anything I've ever had at 9 Dragon Noodle.
Why did it fall short, in your opinion?

Didn't care for either broth, nor the noodles. I've had plenty of ramen - Kin, Ichimi, K Ramen, Nomiya, Jinya, Tatsu Ya - this was nothing near any of those. It just fell flat... lacked "oomph."

I jumped to the last page of this thread. But has it been discussed that they are looking at Barbosa BBQ & a cupcake shop to replace that spot that is currently vacant.

They already announced a sweets bakery is joining. Barbosa probably a no go because of challenges of barbecuing in a food market environment

That’s kind of a large portion of the market for just a bakery imho.

because great ramen is life-changing and mediocre ramen is just noodle soup. if a place says they specialize in ramen, i expect life-changing

Exactly. Why, other than convenient location, would I go to Chow Yum Phat for ramen, when there are other superior places in town?
Looking forward to Soji.

Bakery will just be part of the space. Adding another to the space but likely not bbq.

Did they ever say they specialized in ramen? I thought they were selling themselves as a street food place that also had ramen?
