Do what you want and many say it isn't when OC'd but I am not sure I would give up the performance at stock and not sure how soon Finch will be OC'ing anything anyway.

I'd take the $50 savings and stick it in the video card or SSD

Well take off the 8350 for an 8320 and add an SSD.

Not sure what you could find for that savings though outside of maybe a refurbed SSD?

With this budget its hard to squeeze one in. Finch won't know the difference between a 7200rpm and ssd.

I don't think performance should be docked to make room for a SSD.

$100 or so will net you a perfectly fine 120 GB drive. hell $110 will get you a hyperX on newegg.

I got my 120GB Vertex 3 for $69 after rebates last year. I have never seen that deal again since then. I got lucky I guess but now I want/need a bigger one.

Ssd's are awesome but I agree not to hurt performance for the ssd. Especially if we are talking about someone that has never used one, he won't notice.

For once you agree with me

I would stick to the 8350 just based off of stock performance between it and the 8320 because he will more than likely game at stock for a long time. Not everyone OC's.

An SSD is a fairly easy addition later down the road.

Even my wife can see the difference in speed, and I gave her an oooold corsair SATA2 SSD.

But if the budget is strict, I will agree that the configuration is optimal. I would just strongly suggest looking for change in the couch, mowing a couple of lawns, or sucking a dick or two to get the money to add an SSD, like a regular Samsung 840 120gb.

i reject the premise that he will have a performance drop in 1080p by going with the 8320 vs the 8350

If I had to choose an ssd, 1tb hdd, 7870, 8320 or a build with 1tb hdd, 8350, and a 7950 I would choose build 2 hands down

Might not now but with the new consoles also being 8 core there is a pretty good chance that future games will take advantage of all 8 cores on a CPU. In that regards a faster 8350 would be beneficial.

This has prompted me to ask a question in the PC thread about the guide I'm writing.

I understand I'm at fault for the confusion but I meant in general not specific to the 8320 vs 8350. There is an under 10 frame difference between those 2 and sometimes none at all.

Stout, that power supply went up in price. And what about the cpu cooler. Is that needed immediately?

It's $94.99 on the site minus $15 using promo code COMPNTSAL21 and then you also get a $30.00 mail-in rebate making it $49.99 so no it has not gone up in price.

LINK

Yes get the cooler for $20 right away.
