Only if you are making enough food. Farms are built on the big plot. You might need to hold off on making fuel until you get to the big base.
Check the base tab , resources at the top to see how much food you are eating and producing. Takes 3 food to produce 2 fuel so you need at least 3 spare per day.
Also, need to remember to hit that kitchen ration button every day and need to hit the farm / gardening / hydroponics bonus every day.
Kind of aggravating that the bonuses / rationing all last for different periods of time. Wish they were all the same length of time or wish you could queue actions. At least you can check the effects list on the base screen to see how long the effects have left but I don't think they show the farming food bonuses which sucks. I have to constantly check the base menu to see if all of them are running.

So for my builder playthrough, I found a road mangler not far from the initial base. First time I'd seen a vehicle with an upgrade kit that I had not applied myself. Pretty handy to get right off the bat, can drive the whole map and still have gas left in that thing.

I'm so pissed that the car with 8 or 9 slots loses those slots when you upgrade the armor. What is that bullshite? I wrecked my favorite car with that damn upgrade.
I mainly use my repair van with the upgrade. Space is more important to me than speed. I do have a super fast car in case I need it for a mission but I still end up driving the van most of the time because I need all the room for looting.

I just offset the space with outposts spread out. Gas is more important for me

Finished builder.
That is a nice perk to start the next map with power and water at no cost. I'll play another map down the road but done for now.
I enjoyed it but I think it could have been a good bit better.
Need to be able at end game to have a surplus of everything. Need to be able to clear off the map permanently. Especially since once done, you can move to another map.
Not sure I like the ending which forces you to leave the current map with only 3 folks. Would have preferred to be able to stay on the map and move when and if I wanted to.
the legacy buildings are garbage. I didn't want to build another damn guard tower which used up even more material and ammo. Either increase the outposts or decrease the cost at a certain level. I don't want the end game resource gathering to be such a pain in the arse.
Really wasn't too bad for me but the stupid legacy building forced me to tear down a farm and I had to make luxury beds which put me in the hole for bed space. So the end game building made my life worse not better. Sorry but that is a stupid fricking game mechanic.

Why didn't I think of barricading the doors with vehicles!
Posted on 6/9/18 at 12:05 pm to jmarto1
They can disappear. If you use them to block doors make it a junk car. I had one disappear when I stuck it up against a gate.
Back on the subject of cars. Bring as many as you can to base. You can use the trunks to store extra supplies. If you go over your supply limit they are slowly destroyed so keep them in your spare vehicles until needed.
If you see a van. Grab it. those are great for spare storage. I just lucked into one on my next playthrough so I have a pile of materials already stowed away.

I had played a couple hours but reading up on this thread, this shite sounds complicated long term.

It takes some getting used to especially if you haven't played the first one. It's worth it imo

I was initially a bit overwhelmed but overall it isn't that complex.
No more complex than most other survival games. Just simple gather and build on hotspots. Don't really have a pile of options.
You pick it up pretty fast. You can watch some good streams from CohhCarnage on youtube to see if you will ever be interested in it. Although he was pretty lucky on his play. Noise attracts big attacks on your base and for some reason he was noisy as frick and didn't have any bad attacks on his base.
Just make sure to have weapons equipped by everyone in the base and they can handle most attacks unless ferals or Juggernauts join the fun.

I'm suffering from chasing supplies rather than building influence right now. I'm slowly getting to wear I tread water from my base and outposts. I'm hoping to get some time to search for rucksacks to put me in good shape next. I just found 4 plague hearts so I'm going to try and team up with someone and knock them all out

You really need to use each facility you build. It is much important to hit the ration button in the kitchen, you need to add a water mod to your garden and make sure to activate it so you can get the higher level crops, once the water kicks in, you also need to activate the crop bonus. If you do those things, then food becomes less of a problem. Then use outposts on meds and fuel. Worry about ammo once you are at a bigger base and just pick up all ammo from weapons stores, and military checkpoints. you still need ammo to make molitovs or soda bombs to take out hearts but you should have enough from hitting up stores and checkpoints..
It all starts with getting food under control and the key aspect to doing that is hitting that ration button every day. That cuts your food consumption by 50%.

I don't have a kitchen. I have my farm modded and maxed to the point that my leader has to be a trader to go any further. I have a still for water. I'm gaining one food per day now so a few sacks and I'll be good

Finished the hearts on second play through. I got a .50 with plenty of ammo which made it pretty easy work.
Last heart was hard to find because the locate heart didn't work. Had to go from tower to cell tower. Only had a few I hadn't check and of course it was the last one and almost the last ?.
Same complaint I always have. Maxed out, I'm making way too much noise in the base. Even though I am a badass, I should be more of a badass at this point. Maybe the legacy players should level up even higher?
Had a couple of really hairy fights which I only survived because of fire crackers and even then barely. The Aunt quest. Got out of my car not expecting much and it was a massive hoard.

I'm running around right now doing all of the vantage points and grabbing a few supplies while I am at it. After that I will trade and see about getting to a bigger a base. I've got 4 plague hearts that I've found and I will call for help to knock them out

Finished up my Trader build.
Not as impressed with the Trader perk. I thought we would be able to call traders but you just start with a trader base near you. That doesn't do me much good now that I'm in the big base on the exact opposite side of the map.
To be clear, I mean the legacy perk. The Trader leader is fantastic. The trading post makes it easy to get anything you need. Probably the easiest base maintenance.
i've had a lot of jerks this playthrough. I keep exiling the clowns.
Probably won't finish this Sheriff build. Once I have the big baseball base on autopilot, I think I'll call it a day on this game.

Yeah, I'd probably rank the legacy perks as
1. Builder
2. Sheriff
3. Trader
4. Warlord
I'd rank leader finishes as
1. Trader
2. Sheriff
3. Warlord
4. Builder

Container fort is self maintaining and generating 2 med and 2 ammo.
I'm done. It was good while it lasted, but once you crest hill, game really goes downhill

I just finished and got the builder perk. That perk will make life a lot easier. I definitely have a better handle on how I want to build a base. I foresee this going downhill once you become self sufficient as well
