Guess ill add my take.
I cant speak much on WoW with my limited but enjoyable playing experience on it. However I have put many hours into FFXIV.
FFXIV does a great job at putting in new content..frequently. It appeals to the casual and hardcore play style. Currently as a casual there is just so much I can do that keeps me subbed. Only lacks the PVP in my eyes. Which is why i liked WoW and its open world PVP. It is a neat aspect of the game that I wish FFXIV had.
FFXIV and WoW are at the top imo for one reason and one reason only. Subscriptions. This allows for new and better content because the teams are not so focused on aesthetics in order to continue funding.
Every MMO that i have played that required no subscription lost its luster...quickly.

hi
PVP is a pretty big deal with 14 and they're going hard and heavy with it. I haven't touched it much other than some story stuff, but I don't gather it's in the open world, only in set up arenas and maps, which I guess is what you don't care for.
I always heard that being killed by a random player in WoW was one of the more frustrating things you'd come across, especially if you weren't into that aspect of the game. That was years ago, so I'm certain they've come up with some safeguards to prevent high level players from trolling the newbs.

Hey jeff. I appreciate what you did for me in the reinstatement thread. I felt bad since I wasn't banned, but it was a solid

Most MMORPGs go free to play as a last ditch effort to revitalize a failing game. I'd say WoW and FFXIV don't need to go F2P because they are top quality games in the genre.

Open world PvP fits WoW because of Alliance vs Horde etc. I just like the element of uncontested territory. But it is a preference.

And they have shown they can deliver on content on a regular basis to justify the sub fees.
I've been with 14 on and off since just before the reboot. Where they have it now is insane, and there's so much to do. My only gripe, and this isn't anything to do with the game itself, is that I normally do DPS classes, and so does a majority of the playerbase. So any time I join duty finder for a dungeon or primal, my wait is generally pretty long. Healers and tanks can get in a lot faster.

I feel like ESO should take a page out of FFXIV book and just do a make over and then go subscription. But that just me.
Also there was a really good documentary on the XIV makeover on YouTube. I’m sure you have seen it.

I wanted to like ESO, even got the Morrowind expansion, but maybe it's the same thing with F2P games. Or I keep comparing it to Skryim and it just doesn't have that feel. No idea.
They seem to be doing alright, just releasing another expansion. I'm not feeling it, though.

^^ yeah. There is potential there but I think it would require a makeover.

Well ESO is buy-to-play. Subscription fee not required.
I don't really play ESO as an MMORPG. I'm not really sure what the endgame hook is outside of the PVP. Most things though that you can do in a modern elder scrolls game you can do in ESO now.

Want to play XIV but don't have the computer for it.

Don't have a computer period or not enough horse power? I was running it just fine with a 560 4 or 5 years ago.

Yeah I've been lax on my desktop, it's a barely working dell from like 2011. It doesn't even stay on. I'm due this year, but I haven't been in the PC building scene in a long time so I need to do my research

That this thread turned into a WoW discussion proves my point.
