I agree with you. But we are talking about the game ncaa. If you run the cover 2 base defense and the offense runs a pass to the flats, it will be covered. Thats all I was striving for.

The curl or the flare will be open, one of the two. 9 times out of 10 the corner will float back with the curl, leaving the flat open. Then he'll fly up to make the tackle. You juke him, the WR blocks the safety, and you dance into the endzone. If he comes up on the flare, the curl is WIDE OPEN and you just have to juke the safety with Lafell or Byrd which is easy.

Send a strong safety on a "robber" type of zone. Blitz the outside linebacker to force a quick decision, then you think the curl is open and BOOM! SS is taking it the other way. Or you throw to the flat and gain minimal yardage.

Unless that's the time I call the plays where Trindon runs a race or post route.

Bingo. That is a good go to play on 3rd and 5 or less against someone you know loves to sit in max zones all day.

If they're in cover 2, usually the CB guards the flats, so the #1 WR will be open on the curl.

If they're in cover 3 zone, usually the CB drops back and covers the curl, so you can throw to the WR who runs the quick flare route or whatever you wanna call it. I usually call it a zone buster, lol.
