I need a new game, someone convince me! So far it looks like I will wait for them to fix a game that was released in beta form.

This game has been showing up on my Instagram feed a ton, is it fun?

I mean, I like it. You could always Steam refund it before 2 hours. Just don't think it'll be like Skyrim or the Witcher. It's influenced by those games though. But it's impressive for an indie dev's first game.

Played 3 hours. So far the voice acting is really good. It freezes for me once in awhile but then unfreezes and play resumes as normal, not too bad. I hated the horse controls for keyboard, not sure if a controller is better. I didn’t fight much yet so I can’t say if I like the combat or not. I was surprised how much of the game is cutscenes so far. Pretty sure I watched cutscenes more than played the game but they are enjoyable and immersive so no problem with them.

Yeah, it’s MGS4 like heavy with cutscenes.

The game does seem to open up after Talmberg. Honestly it's not as long as people make it sound. Probably about 2-3 hours into the game before you're let loose.
You do have a lot of different ways in which you can accomplish goals in this game depending on how you specialize your character.
I have extremely mixed feelings about this game thus far. The atmosphere is very immersive. I also really like the period-specific music pieces.
The story seems entertaining and the voice acting is a surprise given the game's low budget.
The game though looks and feels very janky on PS4. Texture quality isn't great. There's a boatload of texture pop-in inside of cities and the game, especially when you first boot it up, it really struggles to load all the textures appropriately.
The animations are twice as bad as Mass Effect Andromeda. I understand that Kingdom Come is basically and indy game, but some moments in cutscenes simply fall flat because I can't relate to the robotic expression on character's faces or their body movements seem unnatural.
The focus on realism really drags the game down for me. The protagonist is just an average dude. As is par for the course with a lot of these European RPGs, the character is basically worthless at the start of the game. Progression seems confusing. I'm not sure what constitutes my character getting better at any one thing.
You have to eat and sleep as well. Things like being tired, eating too much or too little can affect your health and your stamina. The food that you cook/purchase can also expire. Eating old food can give you food poisoning which has a negative affect as well. There's so much that ties into your HP and stamina that it's hard to tell sometimes exactly what is hurting you.
There's a "waiting" mechanic similar to Skyrim or Oblivion where you can fast forward to a particular time of day, but it is slow as molasses and drains your energy/nourishment the same as if you were waiting in real time. Fast travel is also very slow as you watch an image of your character move across the map screen until you reach your destination. Energy/nourishment also drain with fast travel as well.
Your character and gear get dirty, and it's not well explained how to clean yourself. There are bath houses as well as troughs in towns that you can use to clean off your gear.
There's a rep system that feels kind of like Skyrim on steroids. The way you dress, how clean you are, and whether or not you have committed any crimes reflect upon how the citizens of a town view you, but it isn't initially made clear at all how to gain back rep once you have lost it.
You can steal items from houses/stores and sell to a fence, but NPC guards are constantly stopping you randomly to "search" your character for stolen goods. This is extremely annoying when you're just roaming around the city and you get stopped by an NPC 5 times for a search. You have to press L1 + X to surrender, then the game loads a dialogue with the guard NPC. You can submit to the search or attempt to talk you way out of it. It's the same every single time.
Lock picking is virtually impossible on a gamepad as well. I would go so far as to consider this aspect of the game broken until the developers can provide a better method for console users to pick locks.
There's a lot of bugged content in the game as well. I spent an hour trying to find the Bailiff in Rattay. I thought the quest marker was pointing me to a guard standing outside, but I had no actual means of initiating a conversation with him.
Come to find out that the quest was bugged with the Bailiff hiding behind a locked door all day and night, so I had to restart a save game from when I started the quest just to get past the bug.
The save system is also the most retarded and player unfriendly system I've ever seen in a game. You're limited to the number of "quicksaves" based on the number of savior snaps you have in your inventory. The more you drink in quick succession, the more it adversely affects your stats. These drinks are received as quest rewards, but they are expensive to buy. The only way to save otherwise is to find a bed or accept a quest. This can be infuriating when you're out of savior snaps and you can sometimes loose an hour of progress because you were unable to save sans from the time you slept in a bed.
The game's combat isn't easy and seems, at first glance, overly complicated and clunky. Dieing often in combat does seem likely because the combat takes a lot of getting used to, but there really aren't a lot of opportunities at least thus far to hone your skills outside of the main story fights.

^ Agreed. They have to change the lockpicking. I won't attempt that anymore since you can't save the game before. Lot of stuff I love and a lot I hate. Patches could fix most of the problems

Got it at launch and love it.
Its buggy for sure but there have been 3 patches in 3 days and a lot of it is going away, stealth is easier now for example. But none of the bugs are gamebreaking by any means.
People complaining about lockpicking are also way off base. Yeah, it sucks at first but once you get a couple levels in it actually becomes pretty easy. Which is common sense, things should get easier as you level up. You're a peasant not a savant. Most of the mechanics are like this, its a mix of user error and low skill level that make it difficult. Both of which change over time.
The best part about the game is the multiple ways to solve a problem. In the prologue alone you have to retrieve some items from some SOB and the ways to do it range from just beating him up to talking him down to stealing to murdering him to getting your friends to fight him for you.
The game is super ambitious. I wish the Bethesda would take notes these mechanics. If they had a budget it would be hands down the best RPG of the generation.

I ran out of lockpicks attempting to finish the lockpick tutorial quest then the quest bugged and I couldn't get more. There was no option to talk to the Miller.
Sorry for sucking

He sells them for 18 a piece.
The trick that I don't see repeated anywhere is speed. Kind of counterintuitive but the faster you go the easier it is.
I kept the right stick perfectly in the sweet spot but moved the left stick too slow and it broke, the time the lockpick is under tension is as big a factor as if youre in the right spot. Try to do it a little faster on the left stick and it should make it easier

How do you gain rep with citizens of a town? The citizens of Ratay hate me. I think it's because I killed some lady near the Miller's farm.

I know killing bandits raises your rep. I dont know if there are other ways to do it but I havent murdered any peasants yet so its been a non issue

I’ve put about 5 hours in so far and am loving it. I do have complaints about several gameplay mechanics. Can you “get gud” at things like archery and lock picking or are they just poorly designed? Also they have to change saving.

I'm on PC. I love it. Combat is hard as shite when you have multiple enemies
I like the whole concept of being terrible at everything at the start

Lockpicking I can say yes, it gets significantly easier over time.
Archery i'm not sure. Until level 5 you're not able to hold the bow correctly so I assume it eventually gets better too but I havent spent enough time on it

Based on everything I’ve read here it seems like this game could be very, very good as long as the patches fix some clunky and annoying aspects. I might have to get this.

Depends. If you’re cheap, no. If you’re someone like me who buys 7-8 $60 games a year, sure.
Posted on 2/18/18 at 1:35 pm to Parmen
I mean....I was asking in comparison to other decent $60 games
I've read stuff about this game that makes it seem like it's in early access still
