Late to the game God of War discussion thread **SPOILERS**

Couldn't find a thread on the game.
So first off, this game was super fun. I had never played a God of War game before. I knew the general Kratos back story; a-hole, killed lots of gods, but no other background, and I was fine with that. I think the only thing I was unclear on and made me research as the appearance of Athena.
I was slightly dissappointed in how it ended, but it was still good. Before going to Jotenheim, Mirmir tells you to make sure you are geared up, so I'm expecting one last battle. I TOTALLY assumed you'd have an encounter with Odin. But alas, just the journey through giants temple, that revelation about your mother, and then the Loki revelation. That apparently shocked a lot of people, and it was interesting, but it didn't hit me that hard. I saw the scene with Thor once you got to the house, and I know there is supposed to be something else once you defeat all the Valkyrie, but I'm not sure I have it in me to continue. I think I found maybe 12 of the ravens, did only a handful of side quests, only beat one valkyrie and freed one dragon, but I've been stuck at level 5 for some time (not 100% on how leveling works), and there are a few areas where these level 7 guys just stomp a mudhole in me.
Game plays great. I'd often times forget to use Atreus during a battle, and probably didn't use half of the combat skills I unlocked. But what I did use was super gratifying.
Don't think there was a bad character in the game. Even the germaphobic drawf had his charm. Oh, and world serpent........headphones.........wet myself.
Easily GOTY so far. Only thing I can see challenging it, looking at releases, is Red Dead 2.

The game was awesome. I've told people that if you haven't played the previous games in the past that it shouldn't be a problem but I feel like you miss out on a lot of small little things they hint at. Also when you play as Kratos in 5 games (I've only played 5 but I think there is more) you grow to really like playing as Kratos. Playing these games taught me that I was 100% not going to face Odin till a game or two down the road.
Here is the 10 page thread. It's the GOTY for me as well until I see what red dead redemption 2 has.

Gotta go to one or two of the worlds that you open up that allow you to get better armor. I believe these two worlds are not necessary to go to to beat the game. Armor is how you level up.

So at first I thought he was sleeping, but on the load screen, there appears to be a statue of Atreus and something else lying on the ground on the bottom right of the screen. What is the other statue, and what's that all about?
Guess the search function failed me yet again.

What part? It's been a while since I beat the game.

Title screen, where you can select "Continue". Caught it a few hours in.

I have no idea ha. I always thought it was just a toy or something that someone whittled and gave to Atreus.
Also, I forgot to use Atreus at the start but towards the end it was super helpful. He actually becomes overpowered. He was necessary for me when I got to the poison gas world to grind to get armor.

Loved it from start to finish.
People are too used to the boss fight being the ending.
Didn't bother me in the least the way it ended especially since I hadn't finished the Valkyrie fights.
I wouldn't have wanted that final Valkyrie to be part of the finale. She was crazy hard to beat even on normal and I was totally end game loaded with armor and all the loot.

I love how he reminds me I forgot to use him.
"I can be helpful. Just let me know."
Oh. Yeah. Whoops

He was pretty damn helpful once fully leveled. I spammed his bow all the time.

Spam the hell out of the electric arrows and his wolf arrows or whatever.

I dont see anything else topping it this year. Great game. I told myself I would go back and beat it on Give Me God Of War, but I never did. Don't think it'll be fun, the hard mode was plenty tough.
Got the plat and needed a break.

I like to think I like playing games on as hard as possible until i actually play them on as hard as I can. GOW kicked my arse regularly on normal.

This game was the right level of challenge for me. I'm the type once I get overpowered in a game like, for instance, Skyrim, that's when it's fun. I don't go bumping up the difficulty level.

Don't see where you're getting this, other than you have a young companion with you.
I'll tell you one part that really got me: when Kratos goes into the light beam and starts hearing his wife, and it seems like he's only there for a few minutes. Then he gets pulled out by Atreus, screaming. He starts to rage, saying he's only been in there for a short time, but then you see the piles of bodies, and after that, Atreus is slightly colder to his father. And that only gets resolved when Kratos reveals to him that he grieves, just silently.
I think the relationship was great.

and it's so good because right before that, you literally carve through a gauntlet of dark elves, making you feel like a god (which you are
). you finish that and feel so awesome, then Atreus and the comments you hear in the light make you feel this big

yes, there is some inspiration from LoU. Nowhere near a ripoff though.

And the relationship that forms the basis of the story is nowhere near as good
father loses young daughter and goes on journey with another young girl, who he eventually develops a bond with.
father and son lose mother who was the only connection between them up until her death and have to learn to connect with one another.
both are interesting relationship bases
My only real gripes with the game were some of the grindy things, the lack of enemy variety, and all the "video gamey" moments. i would be trekking along, totally immersed, then they'd give you an arena section where you're obviously going to fight 3 waves of enemies and a miniboss. think of the areas like where you're in the giant hallway with the 4 doors and enemies from each realm come in to fight you. moments like this just drag on and take me out of it for a while. got really tired of fighting 100 different trolls too, really wish there was more enemy/boss variety. think they're gonna fix that in the next game
