FYI, don’t be mad at the guns, be mad at process. The background check doesn’t fully work 100% because the states aren’t federally required to submit convictions and institutionalized records to the NICS system. If the record isn’t there, you can very easily get approved to purchase a firearm.

Not questioning the law. But not assuming all of that is true with the shooter because he quoted some random text.
