I swear to god I think I've died over 100 times tonight. Still can't beat this part.

I do recall a lot NES games that were based on movies at the time, were retardedly game-breakingly difficult.

The problem saying "EVER played" is that back in the days of NES, it was typically a situation where you a finite amount of lives and when they were gone, that was it. You either started over or quit playing. Not to mention so many games that you couldn't save. You either played it all the way thru in one sitting or you didn't finish.
Later generation systems almost always have a save option and infinites spawns making it seem as though they are easier to complete. Consider many of today's games and pretend you have 3 live and no respawn.

The final palace from Zelda 2. I was lucky if I didn't die on the way usually.

I remember Super Contra III - Alien Wars for SNES being difficult

I recall Freespace 2 on max difficulty being absurd.

I finished Ecco. Took a whole though. I think the last boss was a huge skull. Kind of a weird concept.

Hard rain was a loooong and drawn out game. But now, I'm debating on giving it another go

Ninja Gaiden and Ninja Gaiden 2 on the highest difficulty.
I don't care who you are, the last boss on NG2 on hardest difficulty, that dragon thing, was fricking insane. Pretty sure I broke a controller on that boss.

Pretty much any of the old school games that had no saves. You died, it was back to the beginning.
I don't remember the name but there was a pain the arse ninja adventure game that would send you back to square 1 after 5 hours of work.
