First year lineup is already looking very strong, especially when you consider that Smash 4 "Deluxe" and Pokemon Stars will probably be out within a year as well.
Smash and Mariokart are the two ultimate multiplayer games and I'd never release them in the same year due to that.

Super Bomberman R Trailer
Sonic Mania Trailer
Old School 2D sonic game on a Nintendo console. That feels weird to say.

See if that has online....man. Another nice one, even it being a smaller title.

It's much bigger than a "niche"
Let me put it this way: what they showed isn't going to convince people who haven't already bought in.
Those kinds of games could come........Mario and Zelda are obviously the big hitters, but for someone who left nintendo and was kind of wanting a reason to hop back on, I didn't see it tonight.

Yeah, with that, Smash probably isn't coming out this year. They'll wait until next year or the holidays. Developing a fighter for Smash takes much more time than a racer or course for Mariokart.
Disagree. I bet it's out Fall at worst.
They are basically killing the Wii U and going all in here. They have to give their fans...who they want to purchase the Switch, Smash ASAP.
Forward momentum is critical with the NS.

What would be the reason to hop back on?
They have a 12 month period with Zelda, 3D Mario, Kart, their best new IP and probably a bunch of VC stuff.
That's a good year.

The fact that it's going to be portable should be enough for him to buy it... at this point, he's a customer gone forever I believe

My point is that this is Nintendo's chance to win some people back and they barely showed their heavy hitters.
The best thing that came out of this event was a trailer for a game we've all seen loads of that's being released on a system their most hardcore fans already own. This was a big missed opportunity.

The world would have collectively shite itself with a new Metroid Prime game

Isn't Metroid big in the West, but not in the East at this point? e3 would be were a Metroid prime would make a debut, since it's a Western event

Regardless, they made the perfect controller for Metroid Prime. They have to take advantage of it. The one thing that was awkward with the Wii controller was changing visors, and this doesn't have that. The controller is utterly perfect for Metroid Prime and FPS at large.

That is the case. The East doesn't like Metroid at all, while the West regards it as a Top 5 franchise.

Because I was dumb and bought the WiiU before the 3ds... Once I bought the 3ds, in 4 months I have spent more time on my 3ds than the WiiU in 2 years. You have kids, I don't even have kids, the portability becomes such a bigger thing than you realize until you have it. The 3ds in 4 months has become my favorite console of this generation, and I almost didn't buy it because "why would I need it?"

I mean, wanting something unexpected is just presentation style, it has nothing to do with content.
And we're seeing trailers leak out now of some fun stuff. And I agree with OML that E3 probably has some game announcements coming.
The problem with Metroid is, at the end of the day, it isn't really a console seller.
Corruption sold 1.31 million. That's chump change for a AAA franchise. I'd bet Zelda, Kart, and Odyssey all sell at least 3x that. Those push systems.

Every major western site (IGN, Gamespot, Kotaku, etc., not to mention most of YouTube) will have stories up tomorrow about this.

It might now though. Save for Smash, Mario, and Zelda, Metroid was the number one seller on the GameCube and second highest seller total for a game in 2002. It's been 10 years since we've had a good Metroid game, and all of which aged incredibly.
I mean really I think more gamers would look forward to a new good Metroid game than a Halo game. Who the frick is still talking about Halo? It's aged poorly. No one gave a single shite about Halo 5. But Metroid Prime may have aged better than any game in history. I do think it would be a console seller in this day and age.

I agree. A new metroid would be incredible and the name alone would move units.
