The problem with Metroid is, at the end of the day, it isn't really a console seller.
Metroid Prime is what got me to buy a Gamecube back in the day.
And I don't really mean that Nintendo should have shown Metroid specifically. I mean they should have shown more of their major franchises with dedicated time, like they did for that dumb motion controlled quick draw game. (Why was that trailer so long?) Like you said, an Animal Crossing game or a real Fire Emblem game would have been nice. Something! I'm just really disappointed and I'm going to bed now.

It might now though. Save for Smash, Mario, and Zelda, Metroid was the number one seller on the GameCube and second highest seller total for a game in 2002. It's been 10 years since we've had a good Metroid game, and all of which aged incredibly.
I mean really I think more gamers would look forward to a new good Metroid game than a Halo game. Who the frick is still talking about Halo? It's aged poorly. No one gave a single shite about Halo 5. But Metroid Prime may have aged better than any game in history. I do think it would be a console seller in this day and age.
Halo 5 sold 4.53 million world wide.
THat's more than any single Metroid game and more than Prime 2 and 3 combined.

Same, but only because I can wait on BoTW and have a huge backorder of games on the 3ds, on top of a few games in ps4 this year
I was hoping I could give up my Wii U, but without Smash I cannot. It's the only thing that will keep it around.
I was also hoping/considering giving up my X1, but without knowledge of the App capabilities...ugh.

Every other online retailer seems to have pre-orders up and running, and yet Amazon is completely devoid of anything having to do with the Switch.

frick I have $800 in free Amazon money. Will I be able to preorder there?

Waiting on Amazon as well. ANd I need to go to bed.

Yeah I wanted to get one on amazon because I have a 50 dollar gift card. Once amazon goes live I will cancel the best buy and just get it from amazon.

But everyone stopped playing quickly. I'm willing to bet Halo 6 sells less than 4 million. No one cares about it anymore. It's just dumb teens that buy it now.
Who talks about Halo still? No ones eyes light up when you talk about it in the same way people do with Zelda and Metroid. It was a 6 year wonder, and some people buy it out of obligation. Metroid fans would buy out of passion. Sure Other M was garbage, but people still talk how the Prime trilogy was incredible.
With Metroid Prime, I think it's so great that save for releasing it in HD format, if you released it completely unaltered with the same graphics 15 years later, it would still receive the same wide acclaim. It's that good of a game.
This end scene from Metroid Prime still graphically stands up, which is a hell of an accomplishment: LINK

You think amazon is going live today?

You know I would have in the very least have a remastered Metroid Prime Trilogy taking advantage of the new controller for $30.00. They already did it for the Wii, and holy shite does this controller have potential for the Switch.

I just played metroid prime for the first time ever this past summer and early fall. So I'm not blinded by nostalgia
It's one of the rare, holy shite I can't believe what I'm playing this is so fricking awesome games
I played halo and halo 2. Not even in the same stratosphere as metroid prime

I just played it on Wii U and the controller was awesome
I got really far into the second one but I burned myself out and am waiting to revisit

I agree....
But it won't sell consoles. Metroid has only sold over 2 million twice. Metroid and Metroid Prime.

I'm also a little shocked we didn't get a clear answer about this being the Portable/Console bridge. Or does the Ultra SF2 news and Fire Emblem stuff point to that?
I was hoping that would become far more clear in this presentation.
