Yeah, I am close to wrapping up now.
It was decent but nothing really tops first area, imo.

Moving my way through NG+ now gradually. I've been experimenting with the other options at this stage to see how they all feel.
While I definitely have my preferences in dual swords and switchglaive on samurai, I'm impressed with how good the other weapons feel in their potential in this game. Pretty much all of the weapons throughout the series history have felt great in some way, so it's good to see that pattern continue with the new system. Dual swords feel insanely good to me now with arts proficiency. I still haven't tried Axe on Nioh 3 yet, but I expect it to be hilarious as usual
I still haven't tried splitstaff or hatchet in this game, but I remember trying them a bit in 2. Splitstaff was notorious for Dragon Dance just vaporizing targets, so curious to see if that continues. The other ninja weapons have felt good for various reasons, and the air shenanigans feel so good to pull off.
I was a little iffy on the guardian spirit skill as a replacement to yokai abilities in 2, but it's grown on me very quickly. I'm glad they included mid air capabilities for a good number of them as well.

From what I've gathered, it's still an OP meme weapon like in the past
I've been running ninja w/ tonfa pretty exclusively, it's just too fun. I've fooled with dual swords for a bit, and for Samurai I've just done sword/dual.
Sword of Meditation is crazy OP and a hilarious aura farm

Thx bro. Finally got past Jakatsu Baba. Haven't had a boss give me fits like that since the snake boss in Nioh 2.

The hatchets are really good. I'm using them and the tonfas mainly and both slap.

The last map is really disappointing. Visually uninteresting and tedious to navigate. Im about ready to wrap this up and move on. Snow map was by far my favorite.
This is probably the laziest game ever made lol. At least 80% of the yokai are reused from the first 2 games (and no, Im not counting gaki with club as a new yokai lol). Off the top of my head, the only new yokai are the sand tornado pot one, the mermaid, the gremlin, the giant gaki, the worm, the horseman, the squirrel, the jailers, the ballooning red face guys, and the giant long neck with the lightning attacks. So thats 9 new yokai out of, what, 60+ regular ones? Don't get me started on bosses either. A ton of the gear is reused too (welcome back Warrior of the East set). They give you these metroidvania movement abilities based on spirits, but they're just contextual button presses instead of actual abilities. Exploration would've been way cooler if I had to actually look for grapple points and flying bird flip walls instead of just hunting down gold misty spots. The invisible walls are also obnoxious - can't tell you how many times I've tried a double jump->dash across a gap to a ledge I can clearly reach, only to hit an invisible wall and fall and die.
The biggest sin though is how they decide to place enemies. Despite a sizable roster of enemies, they just throw fricking jailer yokai and crabs at you nonstop. Like wtf
I just have to accept that nothing will top Nioh 2. William waking up Hideyoshi for the big link up was peak
