Having that problem in Odyssey. Was sailing down between an island and the mainland going to an island for a mission and I stopped back off on the mainland. Thankfully only spent 45 minutes there. Decided to hop over to the island because I could see a synchronization point as I was sailing. 10-12 gameplay hours later and I'm finally leaving that island but only because one of the missions there is telling me to go to the docks in the neighboring island. I spent 45 minutes pirate hunt from one dock to another that should have taken me 2-3 minutes to get to and I wound up circling the island twice.
These games are a sombitch for people with ADD.

Watch out when shooting.
I had 2 prized pelts, and some dude was kidnapping a broad on horse back, and when i shot at him, i accidentally hit her, and suddenly i'm wanted and 8 dudes come out of no where and killed me, and i lost my prized pelts.
Was Shooting some deer, and some jerkoff rides by as i shoot and he takes it to the leg??? I'm wanted and again, killed by a crew of lawmen.
People punch me, and naturally i go to right trigger to punch and i shoot them and i'm wanted again.
I didn't die one time thru the main story, but dicking around, these damn lawmen are every where.

Got to the part where you follow Javier before I had to cut it off for a dinner. Man, the movement is clunky

I haven't been able to play a whole lot, but man the presentation is polished.
The sound design is weirdly one of the things that's jumped out at me. It's a great headphones game.
On the other hand, still getting used to the controls.

I'll have to go looking for more pelts and making cash. Love playing the bar games. Cleaning out those tools at the train station was easy.

Never been a fan of the mechanics in Rockstar games. But I can put that aside if everything else is great

I just hopped on a train to get to some ranch on the other side of the area I’ve been to and I think my game glitched so I’m stuck standing in the middle of the passenger car standing up and the only button that responds is the PS home button to exit the game
Guess I’ll just smoke a bowl and watch the scenery. Been 5 min so far

or, i'm trying to skin or pick something up and it keeps going to my horse. I have to shoosh him away to clankily get near object to pick it up
Also, i'm armed with bow, have it in arm, suddenly after eagle ye, i have the pistol or shotgun loaded and firing. I don't get why it goes away from the bow, while i'm hunting.

The Bounty, wanted system is seriously broke.
Guy was literally trying to rape a chick, i come in and beat his arse, i get the bounty.
Guys are beating up a dude by a tree, i go over to help him and i get the bounty. Helping a guy from bandits is a crime.

I got home put it downloading and took a good 2 hour nap, woke up and had half done and had to put in the other disc. Lol. Took another hour off, then it was done, so I started and played the 1st scene, game is fantastic and the old lady said she wants to actually watch me play this game. Pretty good shite. Graphics are unreal on my OLED 65"

I killed it solo, with a sliver of health left.
That ride back to camp suuuuucked all of the dicks. So far away. On the ride out there is a cut scene that bypasses a lot of it but no such luck going back.
As far as the lack of fast travel and slow pacing, I feel like it's pretty standard for a Rock Star game. I know that fast travel unlocks eventually so I'll just ride it out.
Pro Tip: long press the menu button to go straight into the map instead of opening up the options menu first.
