Electronic Arts will not renew its current collegiate football trademark license with the Collegiate Licensing Company (“CLC”) on an exclusive basis for five years after it expires in 2014; and that Electronic Arts will not seek any new exclusive trademark license for the purpose of making football videogames with the CLC, the NCAA, or any NCAA member institution covered by the current exclusive license for five years after the expiration of the current CLC agreement
I think you're reading this wrong. Doesn't this just mean that other companies (like 2K) will be able to pick up a CLC license to make a college game? Not just exclusive to EA?

Brett McMurphy of ESPN is reporting ESPN has been told EA Sports will still have a college football video game beyond 2014, next year's game will be called College Football 15.

To clarify the differences for people who do not quite understand what the NCAA and CLC are: NCAA = Non profit association, funded by universities to keep the rules and integrity of sports across all of college. In other words, the policing agent to monitor ALL sports (not just football) to make sure athletes and schools are following the rules they agree to follow. CLC = The licensing agent of colleges that ALLOWS the use of trademarks and licenses for universities. They control logos, mascots, fight songs, football fields, bowl games, heisman trophies etc. In other words, EA is losing the rules policing association. It's losing the governing body of what constitutes an amateur athlete. BUT, they can still maintain trademarks and licenses with each school, which is what the game needs each year to survive.

true, but I think the game will lack overall depth. Will every school partner with EA? What if another devloper steps up to the plate. Then maybe college football games enter into a 'free agency' type realm. Maybe Bama goes with EA and LSU somewhere else.
But couldn't college players still sue if they think things are done in there likeness. In otherwords, if this genre continues will we see an end to the real life Roster updates?

ok, so say they can continue on, with getting license from the schools. Can they get ahold of the licenses of the bowl games and the various awards? What will be lost by not having the NCAA/CLC?
Though, guess the CLC is potentially back in play, but not as an exclusive???

This is correct. EA currently does not have a contract after 2014, but CLC is willing to play ball.

NCAA - nothing but the name 'NCAA' and the logo. Actually it will give EA more freedom with the game.
CLC - Without CLC the game dies. With a few exceptions (Notre Dame, etc.) most universities/conferences/bowls have engaged CLC to manage the rights to their respective brands.

Good. They don't need to make another college football game until they give the players their fair share. Crooks.

They should just put the money for the players in a trust and when they graduate, they get the money.
