Work did a all staff retreat thing and gave everyone some spending money that we ahd to spend on ourselves at an shopping center. So of course i bought the new GOW.

Maybe they're boosted and the boost pops perfectly as you're taking damage from the shot?

yep.
If you're over 300m away it does 105 damage to a lvl 2 helm, so maybe a boost ticked at the perfect time?
Edit: Doesn't a hit to the neck count towards the helmets damage? It takes 2 hits to the neck with a level 2 helm from a kar
