So I haven't started yet, but will probably play some this afternoon... I like watching anime in Japanese with English Subs, should I do the same thing for Xenoblade?

If you watch anime that way then absolutely, you have to download the Japanese language pack separately from the eShop though

Japanese audio is more serious, but the English audio is hilarious. Would listen to it just for hilarity.

So is moving forward slightly a legit strategy? Cause I seem to be able to hit pretty fast when I continuely move forward just slightly after every hit doing combat

Yes. I usually do it after the full hit sequence to speed up the reset.

so I think I'm going to have to keep it on English for the audio... games like this, a big part of their personality is fleshed out while you are running around the map, or in combat. Unfortunately when you have Japanese audio, they are talking, but there is 0 subs 
so you miss out on their personalities. Really disappointing, but I'll live

I’m sorry but this game’s soundtrack beats Nier by a light year and a half and it’s not close. I’ve gotten through about 9 locations so far and I mean...jeez. The music department killed it with this game.
