I bought a Ping G30 back in 2014 that I've been trying to get rid of for the past 5 years now. I'll go to Edwin Watts each year and test it against the new drivers, and the G30 still has similar (or even better in some cases) numbers with a tighter dispersion than the newest models.
Still swinging my fitted G30 for this exact reason. I did the comparison at Watts about 3 or 4yrs ago. The best driver for me was a Ping (don't remember the model) but it only beat the G30 by 2yds. No difference in dispersion.

Went from a 425 max to 440 LST last year. The 425 max was not long but very forgiving. I don’t feel like I gave up much forgiveness with the 440 but got more ball speed and distance. It’s a great driver.

Will it reach the point where we “lease” a driver?
already there.....
already there.....

extra 10-15 yards of carry
drivers have been maxed for quite some time, more forgiving? Maybe so
At this rate if I keep upgrading I should be hitting it 400 plus in about 10 years

I pulled out my 20 year old R7 the other day and hit it. I was amazed at how well I hit it and how far I hit it. Based on current club fittings it shouldn't work, but it does. It is an inch short, 7.5 degrees, and an extra stiff shaft. I barely swing fast enough for stiff these days (96ish), yet somehow I was hitting bullets. Go figure.
I tried it because I have been thinking about going to a shorter shaft. Theory is that you will make more center hits and actually pick up distance because you can swing the driver with more confidence. Anyone tried a shorter shaft? More confidence is not really something you can test out at a club fitting.
BTW, I play a Paradym I have had for 3 years. I am watching everything I can find on the Quantum's.

Buddy I golf with has a thrift store driver that’s short and I can rip that thing. Don’t even know what kind of club it is but it works

I've never had a Callaway Driver, but I just got fitted for a Quantum Max driver couple weeks ago. Was playing a Ping 410 with a project hazardous smoke black S shaft, thought it was time to see what the current gen tech could do for me, and someone had given me gift cards and my driver was the oldest gen club in my bag.
Went from about 235-245 (1.4-1.45 smash) carry to a insanely consistent 250-255 (1.5+ smash) with about 105mph swing speed. Also got fitted for a custom shaft, Graphite Design Tour AD HD-5 Stiff. (impossible for me to tell you if the shaft made a bigger diff than the head, but it's a pricey shaft) I hit every single 2026 head on the same shaft, and this Quantum max consistently was the best distance dispersion and highest carry. JPX1 actually felt pretty good too as well as a cobra head. I went in there wanting to buy a Qi4D but I just couldn't get good results with that one, felt like a really tight sweet spot I couldn't quite find, easily the worst data of all the heads I hit and I really wanted to like it. Also hit a GT2 which I believe I hit the single longest drive with, but the dispersion was all over the place. The new ping driver felt good and the dispersion was really tight, but I was giving up like 10-15 carry yds vs the quantum easy. Hit all 4 quantum heads, MAX just gave me best data. Honestly kept trying to find another head I liked bc I was not in love with the look but kept going back to the MAX head and it felt amazing.
The guy who fitted me said 90% of people end up with one of the quantum heads if they are really open to any brand since he's gotten the 2026 heads in. Says its the best offering in this gen in his opinion.
We'll see how it translates to the course in about a week.

Find that shaft on eBay and drop a ping adapter on it and profit.
Most likely the shaft, IMO.

I'm done spending $700 on a stock driver. I'll wait till the next generation comes out and save $$. Went to Edwin Watts and they still had brand new Sim2 Max for $300 and the Qi10 for $400. You can buy the newest Titleist driver for $449 now, down from $649. I have the GT2 and it was the longest driver of 2025. You're not going to gain 10 to 15 yards by changing drivers, they are pretty much at the max of what they can do for length rules wise, now dispersion is another story. You need to speed train to gain distance now a days.

I think John Sherman has a data set for 44 versus 45/46 inch drivers
It makes since.
I’ll try to find a link.

Justin Rose won last week playing the AI Smoke Triple Diamond Max, he doesn’t have an equipment contract so he can play any clubs. Interesting to see him still gaming a two year old model. With that said I’m buying one of the Quantum’s lol
