Not a drill but just asking…at address, is your head behind the ball with the right shoulder a bit lower than the left. If addressing properly and you’re keeping your head still through contact, getting your head out in front of the ball would be a challenging thing to do.

I have the set up pretty good. It's when I try to attack the ball from the top. I almost lunge at the ball and my head moves forward.

Sounds like you’re swinging too hard/baseball swinging. Power should come from your hips/core. Almost sounds like you’re pushing off your back foot to generate extra power, which would move your head forward just as you’re starting your transition, leaving the clubhead waayyy behind.

Oh yeah, that's definitely what I am doing. Any drills to help?

I really don’t. I had a similar issue when I was younger and, honestly, it just came down to slowing my tempo considerably, as well as pre-swing thought inclusive of keeping my head still.

I still do it from time to time so look forward to any drills folks here suggest.

I had the same problem and I have been playing for 55 years. I find that if I start my downswing with my hands/arms, it is hard to get my head moving before I strike the ball. My swing thought, after my back swing, is accelerate with my hands/arms to the ball before any other movement. Hope this helps. I can still break 80 every once in a while, including today. For that, I am thankful.

There is probably an issue with your swing that’s causing it. If you stopped doing it, things would probably get worse. Gotta figure out why you’re doing it. My guess is that your swing would bottom out too far behind the ball if you didn’t.

Eric cogorno actually has some really good driver lessons available on YouTube. This one is good for keeping your alignment. If you come OTT you will hit the alignment stick.

Honestly it’s not a drill, but I always try to feel like my left ear stays behind the ball until after impact. Seems to have helped me with a similar issue.

Is this a good feel to have with all clubs or just driver?

The low point with an iron is after the golf ball. The club is ideally moving down at impact. I struggle with this part of the game when I get too steep.

The low point with a driver is before you get to the golf ball. The club is ideally moving up before impact. I used to have a bunch of “idiot” marks on my M2 driver where I got ahead of the ball and got steep. Setting the driver head well behind the ball at address, like a club head or two, helped me get the feel. John Rahm does this. Moe Norman did.

The swinging action is the same.

I struggle striking irons sometimes because I don’t deliver the club properly.

Golf is hard on a good day.

Put the right side of your shirt collar in your mouth.

I hate to tell you but the best drivers in the world absolutely push off with their back foot, but they are then pushing up with their front foot. Check out the TPI videos on YouTube for more info.

This.

After watching the TPI video about this with Hoge I implemented that setup at my following range session and it made a world of difference with my driver.

I'd start here. The guy who runs the place teaches purely on data and science.

Jack Nicklaus cocked his head slightly to the right before initiating the swing

Mainly driver, although if you hit your irons low it can somewhat help with hitting them higher. Still need to make sure you get forward on your lead side though

I wouldn't try to keep the head static behind the ball as much as focus more on feeling the release out in front.

Shawn Clement does a phenomenal job explaining the release. I started doing it and picked up a good bit of distance. If you time it right, the head naturally stays behind
