Any rational person can see that LIV can actually grow the game internationally much better than the PGA Tour ever could. That’s why 70% of LIV’s roster are non-American players.

If that's the true intent of LIV, to grow golf internationally, why have half the tournaments in the US where the interest is so poor? Why not have them in golf starved locals that would appreciate them?

As many have said, the true intent for PIF is sportswashing. Every time someone calls it the “Saudi-backed” league instead of “LIV Golf” while it continues to become more relevant is what they want.

I think the true intent for LIV Golf is to be a global tour for some of the best players in the world. That obviously involves stops in the US & majority of the best players came from PGA Tour & live in the US

The WGC also tried to "grow the game" internationally and it eventually got whittled down to a single event that happens in Texas. But then again the WGC couldn't operate very long while losing money, but for LIV that won't be a problem.

That doesn't answer the question of how they are growing the game internationally when the majority of the events are held here in the US. How is a tournament played here growing the game any more than a PGA event held here?

Out of 38 PGA Tour events, how many are outside of US?
(0 Signature events, so there’s no guarantee the best players on PGA Tour will even play outside of US)

At least 7/14 LIV events are in a different country. 6 are on a different continent.

I said that LIV can grow the game internationally much better than the PGA Tour can. It doesn’t mean they can’t play any events in the US.

Yes and you can pay larger purses if your tournament is in Tokyo, Singapore, Melbourne, etc versus New Orleans, Hilton Head, Tri Cities, San Diego, etc

Of course US events will always be on the calendar and they will probably change every few years. This will remain the largest market for golf.

Can you? The Zozo has been in Japan (outside COVID in 2020) and it's purse started at 9.75M in its first year in 2019, got as high as 11M in 2022, and was back down to 8.5M this year, one of the smallest purses on tour. In fact, it is directly below the Zurich

I’d rather see a premier event in South Korea with the locals going nuts for their guys versus the pebble beach pro-am for the 20th time.

Sorry but I'm not getting up at 2 AM to watch golf. So that would suck.

And if you dislike Pebble Beach, you are definitely un-American and this makes all the more sense.

Aren't the Canadian Open and the event in Mexico at Mayakoba both PGA event? Plus the best PGA tour players all pretty much play the British Open with many also playing the Scottish open the week before. That's dang near as many as the "global" tour played outside the US last year.

So they played 2 outside of North America, even though I don’t really count a major as a “PGA event”.

Yes, that’s almost the same as 5 for LIV.

2 tournaments in the UK is definitely the same as playing in Saudi Arabia, London, Spain, Singapore, Australia, & Mexico.

Other than Singapore, Australia and Saudi Arabia yeah pretty much the same. It's all a bullshite smoke screen from the LIV fluffers. The great white Shart has been trying to kill the PGA tour for 20 plus years, he's now found a willing accomplice with an endless supply of money who doesn't care about any roi other than sportswashing.

no they don't. The only people saying "the Saudi-backed league" are the establishment media trying to attack them with a narrative that it's blood money.

Exactly, but isn’t that a constant reminder that Saudi Arabia is behind this tour that just signed one of the best golfers in the world?

I bet no one will call the PGA Tour a Saudi-backed league if the merger goes through

I love Pebble and played it. The pro-am tournament isn’t good.

South Korea has great golf courses also BTW.

I’m sure the most populated portion of the world doesn’t get up at 2am to watch every golf tournament that’s here in the states. That’s a problem for worldwide viewing.

Ditch the stupid music, go to 72 holes, get a decent tv contract. Done.

I give zero shits about the golf watching habits of China and India
