Which one do you go by? And what’s the difference?

The handicap index will adjust to the course depending on slope etc and produce a course handicap. When our group plays, we always use the course handicap to see strokes.
It’s usually a 1-2 stroke difference for me. So I am an 8 index, most courses I play to a 10.

If I'm playing a game with handicap, I use the course handicap. The difference is course handicap uses handicap index to figure out how many strokes are given on a course from certain tees.
Course Handicap = Handicap Index x (Slope Rating ÷ 113) + (Course Raring - Par)
Course Handicap = Handicap Index x (Slope Rating ÷ 113) + (Course Raring - Par)

I don't know why someone gave you a downvote. It's a legitimate question & I was curious as to the comparison also.

I play with a group of guys with similar handicaps. Even if I’m the high handicapper in the group, I don’t beg for strokes like a bitch.
