I’m heading to Phoenix, Sedona, and the Grand Canyon. Any recommendations of courses to play?

Good reds, I would also add the short course at mountain shadows if you can squeeze in a quick round

I was just in Arizona playing, played dove mountain, tpc stadium course, and the Phoenician. Dove mountain was my favorite.

We played both Wekos, Subridge Canyon, and one of the Talking Sticks in May. I highly recommend the first three. Don't waste your time with Talking Stick.

Also, I recommend yellow balls. Our group is a bunch of mid teen handicappers. So, we tend to miss fairways often. The one guy who packed yellow balls was always finding his quickly in the desert.

Yeah, dove Mtn head and shoulders above those others. TPC overrated and highly overpriced. Mtn shadows is a great little short course with exceptional location/views.

If playing in Tucson I can highly recommend Ventana Canyon courses and La Paloma as well. I hear the Omni courses and Sewailo are also top courses but I haven’t played them.

Depending on when you come I would consider Eagle Mtn—but you HAVE to call them first to find out if their greens have come back. They are completely gone right now and the worst shape I’ve ever seen for any greens. They got infected and they are waiting for the new grass to come in. It will take months from now most likely.

Sunridge is also a track I like a lot, but it can be very challenging for most.

I’m the Director of Membership at Dove Mountain.

Just be careful about fall trips… you can get hosed with some overseeding schedules

Whats wrong with Talking Stick? Looks good proximity to Old Town and seen several positive reviews.

If you come to the desert to golf, talking stick is a poor representation of desert golf.

Rancho Manana is a cool track for out of towners. It’s a bit shorter and you need to be more dialed in off the tee as it can be tight in some spots. It will be memorable, but not as spectacular as the others listed.

Quick question.... We are coming mid November, and it will be 4-6 weeks after overseed on the courses we are playing. Would you expect fairly decent conditions? From what I understand, one or 2 of the courses don't overseed greens

I’m seconding/thirding the recommendation for Seven Canyons if you end up in Sedona. Awesome course

I played Greyhawk Talon and it was really nice. Also played Troon, but it’s a bit of a blur because they were doing some renovations and the routed us all over the two courses, but I remember it being nice as well

Mid November will be great conditions. I think you will run into furry fairways and cart path only at some places then. Just a heads up.

Condition will be amazing though. Greens can be faster than you may be accustomed to as well. Public courses will generally be running 11-13 on the stimp depending on course.

Eat it Beaver… not everyone remembers match play.

Mid November is decent conditions… prime grass coverage but not as fast as peak conditions
