Yep a few holes out there are rough to walk up and down when it is dry.

Gus is always in great shape and is so fun to play. Their greens are so underrated - fast and undulated and they always put pins in challenging spots.

I love Gus, but it's a pain to get to early from Sugarland.

Now the weather is getting better, might try for some 10am tee times.

Still pissed that Memorials rates are so out of whack for non Harris County golfers.

The two courses I really miss are Old Orchard and River Ridge.

Memorial is same for county residents, only us poor saps living in occupied Houston get deals.

Gotta be old to remember Old Orchard but it was the first place I shot an even par round. Closed like 3-4 months later.

Only had the chance to play River Ridge twice but it was excellent.

I liked Old Orchard better than Blackhawk now to be honest.

Blackhawk has a nice clubhouse and stuff, but I love Old Orchard among the pecan trees.

Of course Shadowhawk is on a different level. Love that course.

Played Eagle Pointe yesterday for the first time after reading this thread I got a 10:00am Tee Time as a single. There were numerous fivesomes playing. Also when my tee time came up no one was on the 1st Tee… I waited a couple of minutes and then the starter rolled up and said to go ahead and play solo. I got stuck behind 2 fivesomes and a foursome behind me. Eventually a twosome caught up to me and we joined together on the 13th. They were members and said that in January the course will be renovated focusing on the drainage system. Apparently the course will remain open during the renovations. It was a nice track but the 17th and 18th didn’t have the same feel as the other holes.

I agree, Blackhawk is meh.

Riverbend is the best in Fort Bend County.

Riverbend is cool, is Shadow Hawk Harris or Ft Bend? Meadowbrook was cool before they built all the houses.

Shadow Hawk is in Fort Bend County, It is spectacular but not available for a man of simple means like myself.

The locker room is awesome and the food is too.

Meadowbrook use to be awesome but it is really hit and miss with the greens now.

Yea they allow fivesomes out there and I will not play out there by myself on the weekend, too much traffic. They also sometimes don't have starters which is crazy to me.

So I played Pasadena municipal Monday and Houston National today. I did Pasadena because of the storms we got Saturday and thought places might be wet and I have heard that they are putting money into the course at Pasadena. I think it is a good beginner course but I won't go back unless I take friend who is learning the game or I want a beer drinking round.

Houston National was really nice. I did not know it was a link style course and I feel like I actually play better on them but I do not really like them. Greens and fairways were great.

I miss this course so much. It was definitely my favorite public course around the houston area.

Sealy, just south of I10 on the brazos. It closed I think 3 or 4 years ago after being flooded multiple times within a few years.

The guy that owns the course and the land is a cranky S O.B.

He would rather let it go to seed than sell it.

The homeowners around the course are pissed as they should be.

True. But he made sure that course was always in pristine conditions and spent a crapton fixing it up after the first couple of floods. Granted that was a drop in the bucket, from what I hear about his wealth, which makes sense with him not caring about selling the land.

I agree.

He could do a small redesign to 18 instead of 27 and build a levee.

It's his money and land and he can do what he wants, but he's not being fair to the homeowners in my opinion.

I always loved the coarse river sand in the bunkers. Made it so easy to splash a shot out.

Don't know why more courses don't use that sand since it doesn't blow away.
