How is City Park BR?

Was in town for the Miss State game this year and saw it from the interstate. It didn’t look bad, but it’s not the best view. I played it a bunch in college, as it was like $7 to play as much as you wanted. The layout was fun. You could find grass in the fairway. Greens weren’t the best, but you could get a good enough roll.
Did my eyes deceive me or is it really in decent shape?

In spots it's in good ish shape. Played it last week one day after work. 6/9 greens were put table, but obviously shaggy and slow. Two were very thin on grass. The fairways were fine. Nothing special.
Every time I play it I wish I won the power ball so I could buy it, and throw a few million into fixing it up bc I love the layout that much.

I played it the other day. Course is aight. Greens were better than the place I normally play. It took me like 4.5hrs to play it though. Lots of walkers, heard that Howell closed and thats why they are getting all the people from there, idk if thats what it is. The nine hole by my house i can get through in just under 3 hrs. I'll only play there again if I'm ready to waste most of the day

Howell closed like 10 years ago.
It’s definitely worth the price. The layout is great for BR. I wish BREC would put more effort into it.

If you want to stay in the city. Get a little exercise and have an area to hit balls at a great price it's the perfect venue to walk with a push cart. If you are looking for immaculate conditions to improve or challenge your game then yeah its not for you.
It's my favorite course to get in nine holes walking on a decent fall or spring day. Just don't go in expecting more than that.

The old LSU golfers go now more than anyone else. I had a love/hate relationship with the old #5. I will go eat my lunch and watch golfers tee off on #5 and can't believe how many hit it in the water, sometimes make me feel good about myself. lol
Oh and don't cross the street and go hit a ball on it for fun, the marshall always riding and don't like that.

Supposed to be getting a renovation
LINK
Also, they got this cool new sculpture that someone carved into a falling tree.
The guys that work there are odd

I personally love city park. I've been going nearly every friday afternoon since I get off work at noon on fridays. Get in 9 holes in an hour and a half most times. It's not in the best shape. Fairways can be a little shaggy at times. 1/3 of the greens are ok, 2/3's are in really rough shape.
But the layout is alot of fun.

Crace’s plans are expected to include the softening of the contours of green surfaces to account for faster green speeds resulting from new turf varieties. Fairway bunkers may need to be shifted to come into play in the same manner as they originally did, while tee surfaces would be expanded to help spread out the wear and tear from additional traffic.
First, I don't think there is a fairway bunker on the course, or really a bunker at all for that matter. But overall, this is the exact opposite of what they need to do. They need to come in and make the greens bigger with wild contours. The course isn't long, so everyone has a short iron into almost every green. Would be a lot of fun to have some crazy greens. Also, no need to soften the greens at the speed they keep them, which can't be much more than a 6 on the stimp.
I've thought about this a lot. If it was me, this is what if do:
-Fairway height grass wall to wall.
-I'd expand 1 and 8 greens to combine them. Double greens can give you a lot of variability with where to place the pins.
-I'd make the tee shot on 3 playable with some tree removal.
-Level the tee boxes on 7 so I don't feel like I'm falling back on the tee shot. Add a bunker on the left where the tree used to be. Expand that green so it's bigger than the backseat of a Honda civic.
-Add back the back tee on 9 that makes it the par 4 it was before they shortened it with internal OB on the right.
-I would add a second tee box on 2 and 3 that would turn it into a Par 3. That way if you wanted to play 18, you'd have different holes to play. 4 would just use the two boxes they have now on either side of the track. 5 and 8 would use the two sets of tees they have now. 9 would have the new par 4 tee and the current tee. Only 1 and 7 stay the same.
-Obviously, if I had the money, I'd blow up every green and build some crazy stuff with a lot of character and undulations. But the rest of that stuff wouldn't be that expensive.

I suggest emailing those ideas to BREC.

No fairway bunkers. There are greenside bunkers short left of 3, 4 5 and 7. I'd remove all of them because they don't really come into play and it's just extra maintenance.

Yes, blow up the greens and start over. Make them bigger with multiple tiers. Take the old bunkers out to make room for a bigger green. #5 green is big, and what they should be shooting for, but with more levels/contours.

If they redid the greens, they could make them faster with new grass.

Can't tell if that's a dig or serious. Could go either way and I wouldn't be upset at either lol

Very serious! They are clueless when it comes to anything. So any input should be given whether solicited or not.

How do you feel, about my ideas? Decent?

Love it. Only thing I would arse is 2 green needs to be expanded exponentially.

If you could blow up the greens and start over with bigger greens, you could go two pins per hole.

Also they need to abolish foot golf as well. Dredge the canal along 5/6/7. Cut down some of the trees behind 1 green. And rennovate that terrible pro shop. The bathroom is like a junk closet. Fix the cart paths as well. All of this could be done relatively cheap in the scope of the project. A green fee increase would help as well.
