People cheat in scrambles. Surprise! It is almost a given that if a group wins a scramble, they cheated.
Does anyone not know this.
All scrambles should take the top 6 groups after regular play nd have a 3 hole putt off to determine which cheaters win.

I’ve hated every four man scramble I’ve played in for years now, it’s a count down to the finish line

Won the last tournament I played in. -17
Rules/games that benefited me.
$5 hit it out of a styrofoam cup, wherever it ends up is where you play your first shot from. I hit it 250 down the middle and we’re putting for albatross on the par 5 after I hit it on in 2.
I’m over 60, and a 2 handicap. I’m playing the white tees, 40-59 blue, under 40 black. Huge advantage for us. We made 3 eagles on par 5’s and hit PW into one on our 2nd shot. I rarely miss fairways and I don’t think we hit anything longer than a 9 into any green but the par 3’s all day.
Didn’t win any long drive or closest to the pin, though I did hit it within an inch on the new SUV for a HIO hole. That got the heart pumping

This is why the nice prizes need to be all door prizes and raffles . First places gets you a 3$ plastic trophy. Then, who cares if you come in first.

I’m not a big hitter. I was on a 4 person team with a woman. She played the most forward tee. She was literally a 25 time state level champion and state level golf hall of fame member.
I got one tee shot past her!
It was fun to be on her team. Tee selection should be more about ability than age or sex.

I played in one where IF you were single digit index,, you played back a tee, but there are several different ways to be a single digit index. Big hitter, good putter, keep it in play, solid all around, etc.
My low for this year was 8.5, but it was not related to distance. It was keeping the ball in play, and a solid short game for about 6 weeks. Then reversion to the mean.
Bottom line, scrambles are fundraisers. Focus on good tee gifts, decent lunch, and spending several hours with good friends.

I agree about different ways to be a single digit handicap player. Heck, join a “goat farm”, short course and light it up.
To me, that accomplishes zero. However, people do it all the time. It’s pretty sad.
