I find it amazing no one has made this point, but Phil said the people that run the PGA Tour are basically sharks. If you look at how swiftly those people wielded their influence to cancel Phil it seems he was dead on the money. So maybe the Saudis don’t have shite on the PGA Tour Admins.

You cant see the difference in players participating in a tournament and Phil actively working with a group intent on harming the PGA?

I can. But it seems Phil and others have been working with them, but until the Saudi comments hit no sponsors or anyone had issues.

Link? I haven’t seen anyone “cancel” Phil, other than Phil. His mouth overloaded his arse. Then he shite the bed more with a ham-fisted apology and announced he was gonna take time off from golf. His sponsors but him on ice cause he’s (a) a fricking idiot and (b) not playing golf. You know, the thing he was doing to keep those sponsorships?
He is solely to blame for any hardship he’s suffering.

Define “working”. Playing a tournament is one thing. What Phil did was much more duplicitous and devious than participating in a tourney.
Phil’s comments just exacerbated a bad situation he put himself in. Lefty isn’t near as smart as he thinks he is apparently.

So what is your differentiation whether it’s ok or not ok to take money from the terrible state of Saudi Arabia?

Phil was fine with his sponsors until his comments about Saudi came out.

“Cancel” refers to losing sponsors, getting fired, etc due to social media shite.

All of his sponsor are dropping him, hence the “cancelled” reference.

“Cancelled” to most people means being fired or ostracized for simply having a different opinion.

Helping draft the rules for a rival league agaisnt your employer and sponsors interests and then getting in trouble for it doesn’t fall under that umbrella for most people.

Sponsor drops are as cancel as anything.

Fair enough, but I still don’t see the issue. I mean, his comments about the Saudis, while tactless, were dead on accurate. I don’t think that’s why he got dropped tho. I think the fact that he’s not active on the tour and got himself into this controversy to begin with through his inflammatory remarks about the PGA we’re enough to make his sponsors willing to distance themselves.

But, by your definition, he sho nuff is cancelled.

I just don’t consider losing your sponsor due to you actively going against their interests being “cancelled”. That’s common sense business

Cancelled to me refers to a woke mob

Are y’all arguing humans should never get fired or ever lose sponsors?

Agree. Phil wasn’t canceled. He was “let go” like any asset that loses its value or becomes a liability.

His PIP money will make ends meet tho LOL

I believe he was canceled by his sponsors out of fear of the mob.

What? No

In Phil's case, it had zero to do with performance and everything to do with perception. Classic cancel. I don't even know how reasonable minds could differ.

Because it didn’t have to do with perception. It had to do with him helping try and create a league to rival and hurt the PGA tour, the same tour that has relationships with his sponsors

That isn’t perception, that is Phil actively doing harm against his own sponsors

For anyone and everyone that matters this is about going after the PGA tour actively, it about some feelings related to the Saudis

KPMG doesn't pay him to wear their hat while he's taking money from scratch golfers on a weekday. They pay him to sport it on national tv in tournaments. His actual actions of trying to start the Saudi league led to him being banned (or in this case, taking a leave of absence) from the tour. He isn't valuable to his sponsors that way.

He never had any intention of creating a new league. He, for whatever reason(probably those sentiments contained in Norman's letter) wanted to bring about change in the way the PGA Tour works.

It is exactly perception. That's all advertising is

Meh, Callaway said "pause". They will be back when the perception is over. Classic canceling.

Ahh, ok. I will help draft a rival consulting firm bylaws and when my company finds out and fires me I will say they cancelled me I was only trying to help improve!

Or they'll be back when he is able to swing Callaway clubs on TV again.
