This is the death knell for LIV. They need a deal now
quote:

Departing LIV golfer Eugenio Chacarra voiced his thoughts on the league amid the news that he won’t be returning for the 2025 season:

“When I joined LIV they promised OWGR and majors. But it didn’t happen. I trusted them. I was the first young guy, then the others came after I made the decision. But OWGR and majors still hasn’t happened…”

“On LIV, nothing changes, there is only money. It doesn’t matter if you finish thirtieth or first, only money. I’m not a guy who wants more money. What will change my life is playing in Hawaii and qualifying for the majors, qualifying for the Masters, the Ryder Cup.”

“I see what it’s like to win on the PGA Tour and how your life changes. How you get major access and ranking points….”

“I’m not blaming them, they probably know more, but they don’t really care about the young guys much…. “I’m very thankful for what they’ve done obviously.. “LIV didn’t exist when I was growing up. I was watching Tiger Woods winning on the PGA Tour and I want to do that.”

& yet they just signed 4 more young guys.
What “deal” do they need? They’re not getting OWGR points, that’s pretty clear. They’re not playing in PGA Tour events, at least for 2025.

LIV’s future is with the DP Tour. Probably why the 4 young guys are all international. The schedule is pretty aligned with their events & Asian Tour events.

The end game is having an American Tour & a Global Tour

Taking a victory lap with words from a disgruntled LIV player is interesting when Tom McKibbin literally just chose LIV over a PGA Tour card

He chose guaranteed cash over grinding his way on the Tour. I’m not knocking it, but, let’s be honest….

This has always been the case. It’s not really a secret. No one went to LIV for any reason other than money. Which is fine, but should be acknowledged. No matter how much the LIV bots want to explain this away and tell you why LIV is viable without an irrational actor willing to lose hundreds of millions of dollars every year

This guy. He would definitely know what it's like to finish 30th since that was his average. Dude had two top 10 finishes in two years on LIV and he thinks he's going to be competing on the PGA Tour. If you're irrelevant on LIV you're certainly only going to be more irrelevant on tour. He wouldn't be sniffing majors or Ryder Cups.

Guy just sounds bitter and dumb obviously. Anybody that joined LIV betting on OWGR and Majors is just an idiot. It was clear that was not happening and anybody who signed there should have known that.

His 23 year old Spanish buddy David Puig joined LIV as an amateur. He played in 3 of 4 majors last year, the Olympics, & currently sitting at #107 in OWGR.

While Chacarra is sitting at #327.

Of course the golf media is going to eat up his comments, but it’s not like he’s going to walk into a Signature event on the PGA Tour & get all the guaranteed OWGR pts

More info from Eugenio & the current path back to the PGA Tour:

quote:

Eugenio will now have to wait for a year after his last LIV event to be eligible for PGA Tour status, but he has calls lined up with PGA Tour officials to see if he can get back earlier:

"After I entered second stage of Q School they said you can't play, you're banned until a year after you played on the LIV Golf Tour. I have a couple of calls this week, with a couple of guys on the PGA Tour and see what the deal is.
Where I can play. I'm not even sure if I can play International Series or not. So I want to make sure l'm doing the right thing to get myself on to the Korn Ferry or PGA Tour as soon as possible."

quote:

Also this is another fantastic example of the absurdity of the PGA Tour, as Eugenio is suspended from all tour affiliated events for another 8 months, despite never being a member of the PGA Tour. He wasn't even allowed to play in Q-school. While there's a chance that the "premiere meritocracy in professional sports" realizes how stupid they're being with that rule and let's him try to qualify, it should never be like that in the first place.

has the ever been a time when a player withdrawals from a PGA Tour event that they weren't reported to be a lock to LIV. It's so dumb.

agreed. They did this same thing with Finau...then found out, oh he had knee surgery in October

from the AP

quote:

LA QUINTA, Calif. (AP) — PGA and British Open champion Xander Schauffele withdrew from The American Express on Monday for medical reasons, the second highly-ranked player who had to pull out of the third PGA Tour event of the season.

Scottie Scheffler withdrew last week, which was not a surprised as the world’s No. 1 player recovers from minor surgery to his right hand that was punctured by glass while preparing Christmas dinner.

Schauffele’s manager said in a text message the No. 2 player in the world withdrew for a medical reason, though there were no additional details.

The American Express starts Thursday on three courses. Former U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark, at No. 7, is now the only player from the top 10 who is playing.

If you want a green jacket, LIV is not for you.

If you want sweet sweet Saudi cash, then LIV is for you.

What a dumb narrative.

Plenty of Saudi cash going to PGA Tour players. Scottie took home over $60M last year

Joaquin Niemann still gets his shot at a green jacket & I’m sure there will be more in the future

Pride will be melting down now that LIV will be on network tv.

Great exposure for the league.

Why does it matter? Everyone watches on the awesome app right?

The crutch of “well it’s the CW” is gone. Will be fun to compare ratings now.

It also will expose the league to more eyeballs. Streaming and viewing figures have been underwhelming for LIV in key territories such as the U.S. and the United Kingdom – where it still does not have a broadcast partner – but the move to FOX will provide a stronger platform to compete with PGA Tour events.

Not good for his comparisons of viewership numbers.

I’m interested to see if there will be a big difference in the production with Fox Sports or if it will look the same

ETA: reported that LIV is still in charge of production so it should look the same

Will be fun to watch more golf 2/6-2/8 with LIV teeing off at 9am CT & then WM Open in the afternoon.
It says that’s 6PM Saudi time, I guess they’re playing night golf?
