My son is 2 and loves “playing golf” but has his left hand low

He runs around hitting his fake golf balls with his little clubs, will do it forever, but I can’t for the life of me get him to hold the club with his right hand low.
When does this really start to matter? I’m trying to encourage him to do it now but obviously it’s not like he’s going to sit around for a lesson he’s 2 and just having fun!

I wouldn’t worry about teaching him any fundamentals at 2 years old. Let him swing as hard as his little heart desires. You can fix all that later.
I should add I have no kids and suck at golf

This is what I am thinking, and I certainly don’t want to be that guy teaching his toddler swing fundamentals and bragging
He just seems to genuinely like to do it and I want him to do it right eventually you know?

Right handed people should be swinging “left handed.”

Thanks for that useless piece of wisdom

My point is that if he’s left hand low, have him swing lefty which is the natural motion for a right hander. Right handers are right hand dominate, right eye dominate. Those are actually useful for swinging left handed. It’s more and more common because people are letting kids do what feels natural.
But if you think that’s useless info, go on with trying to school your uncoordinated two year old who won’t remember anything you try and teach him at this age.

My son was exactly the same way. I’ve never really tried to correct it knowing not much is going to stick at that age.
Now he is 5 and cooled on golf after being a maniac for the game at 2.5-4 yrs old.
He’ll come back around when he is ready and we will work on fundamentals when he is more coordinated.

Teach him to swing hard and have him break water balloons- that’s enough of a carrot to get him to want to swing hard and with a purpose - that’s all you need to do at this point

Patrick Welch plays college golf at Oklahoma cross-handed. Good player too.
Don't sweat it. Let him have fun and when he shows serious interest in a few years you can correct him. Typically by that age he will switch to copy you.

I played with a man whose grip was “cross handed.”
He knocked the crap out of the ball.
Odd to see, but it worked for him.
At 2, let him have fun.
At 4, he needs to be in elite travel golf. Swing coach, physio, short game coach, sports psychologist, etc.
Try to keep him on task once he’s 4.

Oh no doubt, we are already buying him outfits with white belts, discussing different hair dyes for his frosted tips, and legally changing his name to Titan

At least you are putting him in position for success.
Got to push them early. Only chance to win 40 majors before 20 years old.

I don't think eye dominance would matter much in golf hitting a stationary target. maybe baseball.
