Phil helped write the bylaws during the creation. Trying to steal other players is a completely different issue and is grounds for termination at any job.

I still don’t blame the PGA for trying to protect their position though. It will be interesting to see this play out in the courts.
But as to Phil and his self inflicted woes, I really don’t feel sorry for him. All he had to do was shut up. Shut up and play golf and he’d have been fine. He just couldn’t keep his mouth shut. That’s on him.

But Phil wasn’t doing that- by his own admission. He was actively trying to destroy the PGA. That’s not simply trying to improve your life. So it’s not that simple for him.

Some of you act like because you are an IC you can’t be fired. Do shite that is detrimental to those that hired you and see what happens. That is where we are with this.

Who would watch? You watch a lot of Korn Ferry golf? I don’t. That’s what it would be.
Golf Channel’s hypocrisy knows no bounds. I am far from a Phil apologist. What he did was built off nothing but his own greed and arrogance, but the Golf Channel needs to get off their high horse. NBC sold their soul to China and the Olympics. China makes Saudi Arabia look like Disney World in comparison to their human rights violations.

I would imagine the LIV will be the one with the most middle tier players. All the young top players are staying put. Who wants to watch Westwood, Garcia and a few others? BTW, I watch the morning ferry when it is on along with college golf.

You may, but many won’t IMO. Take away the top players from PGA and it’s not going to be the same. Tiger is taking a pretty aggressive stance by his standards. He’s still got the respect of all of the young superstars. He’s also by far the most powerful person in golf. He may be able to hold off the Saudi money for a little longer. Hard for me to imagine the players won’t eventually see the amount of money Saudi’s are willing to throw at them and stand on the sidelines. I just didn’t like how Phil went about it, but the Golf Channel looks ridiculous talking down to Phil.

The statement about an IC being fired is cool and all in a workplace/business environment. The IC is performing a task for the entity that retained the IC because that entity doesn't do that type of thing in their normal course of business. In professional golf, IC is not truly accurate. The golfer is performing a service for no one. It's a sports competition. The tour isn't firing an IC. It's more similar to a hunting club with rules or bylaws. The breach of which is punishable by whatever the rules state. The biggest problem the PGA Tour has in this mess is the fact that there is no competing tour. It is the only tour in American where the best golfers in the world can compete for prize money. They should really be careful with this. Win the battle lose-the war type thing.
