His one decent performance is the old course which is completely different that every other European course environment
His European Ryder cup record
0-3-0
He shouldn’t be chosen for a European held Ryder cup unless he auto qualifies
JT also hasn’t been great at Opens, but he has at least performed on their soil for Ryder cups
I would not have picked JT. But in Rome, I have more faith in him than Bryson

Dude the rota of Open Championship courses are basically not imitated anywhere due to weather and geography. The rest of European golf looks much more like American parkland golf than links golf.
Marco Simone is parkland golf on the side of a mountain. They will have hilariously tight fairways and the course will not play “long” either. it’s undetermined exactly how they will set it up but you can imagine it’s going to be narrow, thicker rough, and slow greens. What’s interesting about this is that the top end European golfers won’t benefit from this. McIlroy, Rahm, Hovland, and even Fitzpatrick are all bombers and not necessarily straight, so they don’t seem to have an edge from that setup. In fact I think McIlroy struggled in France with that setup.
I think this years Ryder cup will be close and hope the Americans can win and end the drought, but rhymes are gonna have to exorcise some demons to do it

He may have played better (although I’m not sure if you saw him in France but it was atrocious) but it’s hard to argue that the guy who has recently sued 80% of this team would create good chemistry with them.
And I might have been ok with Bryson on the team. I heard a comparison in playing style is Bay Hill and Bryson dominates that place.

Hovland is ranked 31 in driving accuracy and 7th in strokes gained off of the tee. That is pretty good.

Yeah he’s one of the best ball strikers out there, and those strokes gained numbers are based on PGA tour setups. which is why a king the course shorter and tighter isn’t necessarily a benefit to him. Those guys win by hitting wedge out of the rough when others guys are hitting 7 or 8. Le Golf National was set up with hilariously impossible right that made missing the fairway an extreme penalty unlike what they see on the PGA tour. Guys like Phil were a disaster there.

That’s the biggest disappointment (and JT being picked)

He should have, because today I learned that experience gets you points....not performance.

This was your take on Justin Thomas at the British Open:
quote:
Justin Thomas sucks at golf compared to other pro golfers. Didn’t think I would have to qualify that, but forgot I was on this site
He is very bad right now for a pro golfer. 4 missed cuts out of 6 events. That’s just woof level
If his name was Tustin Jhomas you would be wondering how that phag was on tour
I remember this because I remember thinking that Justin Thomas isn't THAT bad. Then I looked at all his results and thought, damn, Justin Thomas really has sucked for a while now.
You would take that guy, a whoof level golfer, guy who sucks at golf, tour fig over Bryson. Who has obviously, been playing pretty good golf.

Why is Lucas Glover the biggest disappointment? Because he played 2 good tournaments over a month before the Ryder Cup?

But I wouldn’t have taken either of them.

Fwiw, JT hit 56.24% of fairways this year and Bryson hit 55.56%.

Love the comments, I have no clue who to take or who to leave behind . Seems team concept is a different ballgame . Some will be praised , some will be ostracized when it’s over . Go Team USA .

You are trying to compare JT just to Bryson
You can make an argument for JT over every other option by saying “he has one of the best records in US team history”
Bryson has no such argument. There is zero trunk argument for Bryson over guys like Keegan, Glover, Young
That’s why JT still makes sense over Bryson. There is a reason to take him. You don’t have to agree with it, but there is a clear definitive argument to be made for him

So chemistry and locker room rapport aren't important? Don't be so naive.
Pairings of personalities count heavily. It's not just about recent performance.
What about the golf course? Don't you think the type of course might affect the captain's picks?
So much more goes into it.
