Yes it’s very hard to do, but he’s an elite player with a game that can play at all 4 majors. I think it’s fairly realistic.

What percentage chance do you give it?

Several or multiple can be 2 wins

Sam is young.

Things you need to win a Major -

Power - Sam is long with every club and the strength to muscle a ball out of the rough

Accuracy - Driver needs work, but he is very accurate with his 3 wood and still long . Irons are in good shape and he has a adequate short game.

Experience - Again Sam is young and still learning what it takes, that will come. This years 3 Tour wins was a huge step in his development.

Putter - Sam is streaky and can get on a putting roll sometimes.

Luck - we will see

Health - Sam's back issues have to be resolved.

No he hasn’t. Sam is my favorite player, and want him to win badly. But he has underperformed at majors

Cut
29th
41st
WD
Cut
76th
Cut
20th
27th
42nd

Which of those results would you call “coming close”?

I can totally see him winning more than one. He has been the top ranked player at every level he has played, and is working his way there on tour.

It's fairly realistic that he could end up just like Rickie Fowler too.

eh, Rickie has been on the PGA tour for 13 years and has 5 total wins. He has always been known as someone who would contend but never win much.

Sam has been on tour for like 4 years? and has 4 wins in the last 2.

Rory ran off 4 majors very quickly and extremely young... and now hasn't won one in a decade. They're hard as shite to win. Sam is 26, so let's say he has 12 years of prime golf left (48 majors) and then another maybe 5 years where he could win one (20 majors).

So he has roughly 70 opportunities to win 2, right around a 3% win rate. Below is the best winning percentages all time, he'd have to win Majors at a top 30ish rate of all time win rate, which includes way worse fields. Possible, sure, but really freaking hard to do.

Or every time someone wins one "Cam Smith career major over/under 3.5"

Is it that crazy to set an over/under of 3.5 on majors for the #2 player in the world who is 28, already has one, and has finished 2nd at Augusta and 4th at the US Open?

Only if about 20 other dudes leave for LIV. And I like Sam Burns but come on.

He needs to win one first before predicting he would be a multiple time make champion; however, I don't think a 26 year old who is the ~10th ranked golfer in the world needs 20 other guys to leave for LIV to win several major titles either.

Not sure I can agree with you there. Rickie finished in the top 5 of all 4 majors in 2014 and 2nd in two of them. I don't think anyone expected him to contend but never win a major. At Burns' age, he had won 3 tournaments (one of them being the Players) but with a lot better results in majors. Yet we're talking about Burns having all the tools and Rickie being a guy no one expected to win much?

I think the point was that this happens all the time with first time major champions, especially those who are under the age of 30, yet almost all of them never win another major. The list of guys who were consistently ranked highly for years, were usually very competitive in majors, yet won only one or none is a long list. Only 25 total golfers have won 4 or more, and only 15 since the 1960s.

Davis Love is a perfect example. Guy won 21 times on Tour (including 2 Players and losing 7 more events in playoffs), 22 top 10 finishes in majors (2nd place 3x), was on 6 Ryder Cup and Presidents Cup teams, and was in the top 10 of the OWGR for 450 weeks (as high as 2nd).....He had 1 career major win

Sam is my guy, I hope he wins 10. But the facts are majors are hard as shite to win and all of his wins have come on similar type golf courses, Bermuda. A lot of majors are played in the north/Midwest/west where the conditions are quite different and he has much less success.

The PGA moving to Frisco should help him

Like I said, y’all are like children. The responses were to him winning several majors and it immediately turns into why can’t he win a major. And on top of that it’s stupid shite like this

“Hey guys, I can’t believe y’all are hating on my fellow tiger Sam, he’s my hero stop hating on him”

This is dumb. He just won himself a 5 yr exemption into all 4 majors. LIV isn't changing that.

The fact that some "golf fan" actually gave this an upvote proves that LIV has caused some of yall to lose your minds. Why would you not want the 2nd best golfer in the world to play in all 4 majors?

So he passed up 10’s of millions at the least and would still be able to compete in majors (minus the crappiest one)

Your logic is flawed…appears you are the only one not aware
