Gentlemen,

I come to you, humble, yet aware of the vast power my words hold. I recently made two separate posts: Webb Trees and How I Would Renovate Webb by Johnny Lawrence. In both posts, I argued that tree removal was a must for Webb, and specifically pointed to trees on hole 12. I recently played Webb, and lo and behold, the trees on 12 had been cut down. The very same trees I advocated should be cut down.

At this point, I'd like to address the BREC superintendent or greens committee member who reads the Golf Board. Thank you for your service. I was able to hit driver on 12 and find the fairway, much the way the course was intended to be played. I wasn't forced to thread a needle caused by overgrowth of trees and was not forced to hit a punch shot from under a tree in the fairway onto the green. I look forward to your continued work in this regard. Additionally, if BREC would like to place me on retainer for my architectural services, I would likely do it for a modest fee and a membership to all of your courses.

For the rest of you, please take this note to heart. You have the power to affect change in the golf community in which you live. Never give up, even when it feels like no one is listening. Someone, somewhere is listening. And maybe, just maybe, they'll cut down a tree if you ask.

Sincerely,
TJL

How was the rest of the course? I went out there yesterday on my lunch break just to chip and putt since it was a nice day. The practice green was as fast as I've ever seen a green at Webb.

I could see they were working on hauling away the cuttings from the trees over between 11 and 12. Praise Jesus!

This new Superintendent is not fricking around, this has potential to be fantastic.

Not bad. The greens were much faster than I anticipated. There were a couple spots on the greens that were a little missed up, but I think if we don't have a bunch of really bad weather this winter, the course could be in really great shape in the spring.

I have not played it in months but when I drive by it looks like they are actually cutting in fairways, how are they fairways in general?

I see a fairway outline and a beginning rough line from College and Ive never seen that at WEBB

Plush as I've ever seen at Webb. Don't get me wrong, it ain't primo, but for the price it's really good.

They've got the fairway line on 4 cut, and I'm not going to lie, I had no idea it was that far from the path. Growing up I just assumed from near the path to the trees was fairway. Apparently I was wrong. It's a good 30 - 40 yards from the path.

The trees you wanted cut down were they at the bottom of the “valley” near the big concrete catch basin?

I remembered when these trees were planted. Had they gotten too big?

They cut that tree down and one near the tee which blocked the tee shot.

By the concrete basin, the tree blocked all but about 10 yards of the fairway right around where you'd want to land your ball. It made it almost impossible to hit the fairway.

It’s been a long time, but yes when those trees were small you could cut it too much and get stymied and I could see how in time they could get so large that they encroached too far into the 12th fairway.

I also could see the trees near the 11th green messing up the tee shot on 12.

Just googled the hole and I see exactly what you mean. Trees that were small when I played are big, and plenty of big trees when I played are gone.
