We're making a lot of improvements at Tempest. Close to 5 acres of sod have gone down over the last 18 months and we now have one of the top supers in North Texas, who came to us from probably the nicest private course in East Texas. It's gonna be a top North Texas course in the next two or three years. The layout is already one of the best, conditioning needs to be a little bit better but the course is a maintenance is a nightmare with all the hills.

there's only 3-4 decent public courses in SHV/Bossier and they're normally packed to the gills

You're right, golf in Shv/Bossier is pretty bad. Stonebridge is nice but not $80 nice, Olde Oaks is just awful, Querbes is always packed and a few greens are almost unplayable but they act as though it's the pimo spot to play in the area, Northwood greens are terrible, Crooked Hollow isn't terrible, Huntington is in really good shape and they've done a lot of work to it, they have poana starting to grow on a few greens and they better nip it in the bud quick. Eastridge and Soithern Trace are really nice but not worth the 5 grand down and $1000 a month to play, at least to me anyway. Just not many options.

Yea there's no other way to put it other than saying Shreveport Bossier is a crap city for golf. It's unfortunate. There is a TON of good golfers in the area, just not a lot of good options, for all the reasons you said.

I think Southern Trace and East Ridge are up to 10K initiation now. I mean they are fine (haven't gotten to play East Ridge since it re-opened) and I'll pay a steep initiation if the course is worth it. But honestly, they are about $500 a month courses, not 1k.

Sentimental to Querbes and Huntington because I learned to play out there and at Westwood (RIP). But the thought of being backed up on every hole and a completely crowded course makes me want to vomit these days.

I do want to go play Northwood this year even though I'm sure the greens are bad. That back nine is such a fun nine.

Really hope the Olde Oaks/Stonebridge owners sell at some point. That's the only hope that Olde Oaks has because they won't put the money into the maintenance and staff that it needs. I live out there and I'm not even a member and drive to Texarkana because the golf here drives me nuts.

Well, he's under investigation for being a Chinese National that owns the golf courses on the North and South end of Barksdale so maybe there's a chance

That and the previous article linked makes me that if true, that almost means they certainly aren't going to sell anytime soon. They have the land and the govt. can't make them sell. And that tells me Ji has a much much bigger financial backer and won't need the money to sell/it's no problem if the golf course struggles and that having a nice golf course isn't their main focus anyway. Ugh. I can't stand that guy and dislike his wife even more.

Maybe not legally but I'm sure there are ways and I'm all for it if olde oak conditions improve and they reopen oak

And it probably helps the Speaker lives 3 Miles away.

His wife is a huge problem, she's a mean person for sure. He wouldn't really have to sell the land the golf course sits on; he can keep all the mineral rights. He needs to sub out control of the golf operations either to the members at Stonebridge or to a company like Troon. I'm not sure how that would work but something definitely needs to be done. Old Oaks needs a substantial amount of work. My son works for Trace and I've talked to the superintendent out there and he seems to think that he could get the grass out there looking good withing a years' time, but they would have to completely revamp the irrigation, redo all the greens and either get rid of or fix the bunkers. I don't know if there anyone or any golf management company that would want to tackle a complete overhaul of that place, there is potential but the amount of money it would take would probably make it unfeasible to do so.

I hear Mystic is incredible. Better than Squire

Maybe in pure golf layout. Mystic is as hard as anything I’ve ever gotten to play and didn’t even think about the back tees.

Golf Ranch is hard as hell - it’s still open somehow 25 years later, so it’s gotta be decent. Either cost wise or play.

Texarkana CC is awesome and a step back in time. If you can get out there do it. Great private setup.

it is not $1000 dues per month. Around $600 which is not that expensive for the quality of the course and amenities. I don't know about the $5,000 entry fee. Best club in the area, with the renovated East Ridge in second. Nothing else is close.

Initiation fee $5000
Monthly dues $734
Capital improvement monthly fee $100
Cart fee $100/ $80 trail fee if you have your own cart

Range fee $275 per year/ billed quarterly but averages $22 per month

Food and beverage per year $240/ billed quarterly but averages $20 per month

Totals- without your own cart $976. $956 with your own cart.

While technically not $1000, its a bit more than $600

Texarkana Country Club

Played it about 10 years ago and was shocked at how nice it was

I guess they call it “little augusta” and it definitely has that feel. Apparently they get their sand the same place as augusta because it is the same sugar white.
