Based on Zingers comments I’m now convinced, this was scripted.

“Rory, putting the tour on his back.”

Scheffler is getting laid under the table.

What do you attribute the ridiculous distances todays Tour pros are hitting the ball? The ball, equipment, nutrition, exercise, instruction or a combination?
I’ve been playing for over 50 years. It’s everything, but the equipment is a huge factor.

When metal woods really started hitting the market, we hit it further. Persimmon drivers were better overall, but the change was coming. When the oversized heads arrived, yardages took off.

I miss my balata balls. The ball was sooooo much easier to work.

Rory got lucky. If that chip doesn't hit the pin, he bogeys. The grandstands saved him on 18. If the stands aren't there, he makes bogey at best. The pga needs to do something about putting stands that close. You should be penalized if you hit it in the stands.

Yea, but if you mishit it with an iron you were reaching in your bag for another ball.

I guess my take didn’t hold up too well. But it took Scheffler having an awful day(all the way around) from tee to green) to make it happen.
I’d like to know what the payout would have looked like under previous format.
Hats off to Alfalfa, coming back after his horrendous start.

True, but being able to back up a 6 iron was awesome

I have two sleeves of tour balatas on my office desk. I bought them on eBay to make my godchild and his teammate play them for 9 holes. They are both seniors in high school.

I would hit on average a PW 100 yards, a 7 iron 150 yards, a 5 iron 175 yards, and a driver 225 - 250 yards. That was roughly 50 years ago.

Todays 7 iron is 1975's 5 iron in loft

But today's 5 iron launches higher and spins more than that 7 iron

Im sure with high handicap oversized game improvement irons you play. Its the ball dummy. Nicklaus's VIPS werent much different than todays blades.

Yes they are. Metal compounds, CG, swing weight, shafts, etc, etc.

It’s not the ball. I’d much rather be hitting balata.

Give me some forged blades from the 80’s and pretty much any set of irons made today and you’ll pretty quickly see the difference. About the only part of the club I don’t think would matter much is the grip.

Yes, the steel isn't the same as the steel they were using 40 years ago. Every manufacturer today doesn't even use the same kind of steel.

Well yeah, that's basically how someone can come back from down 6 strokes in one day. Not many scenarios out there for the leader to play better than poorly and blow a 6 shot lead in 1 round

Not much different TBH. The old format and the new format don't produce much different results. Neither were/are great.
