Wow. Did the player bring the caddie? Or was it a local caddie at Brandon?

I'Ve played a lot of golf and it never crossed my mind once to touch the sand with my hand. That just feels like a bad idea.

That’s a bush league caddie. Any Joe would know better. Don’t pay the man.

Had a friend at an old Ben Hogan event pick up a ball he thought was out of bounds (hit a provisional). Cost the guy 2 shots, missed the cut, refused to pay, but ultimately did. Bruce Vaughn was the guy’s name. Pretty good B list player in the 80s and 90s.

He’s still lying about it too.

Do they pay the caddies at the Amateur?

I’ve never even considered touching the sand with my hand when playing. But I also wouldn’t have thought it was a penalty. But I’ve never played in a tournament. At that level you need to know those rules.

Yea, read he is lying about it. Not sure how you can watch yourself do it from multiple angles then say you didn’t do that.

Of course they pay them. Unless it’s a friend doing it for all expenses paid trip. Which is essentially getting paid.

Yup. Why is it so hard to just admit you fricked up/didn’t know the rules.

I mean I wouldn’t pay this Bandon caddie if I was Oliva. That is an unforgivable mistake. Denying it after with multiple camera angles makes it even worse

The caddie also has a ridiculous reaction to his guy making the winning putt the other day. Bandon posted it on insta. Nothing wrong with the reaction but I did wonder it he scuffed the green with the flag stick

Strafaci’s dad called out Pinto and the caddie accusing both of them of lying. I think Pinto’s caddie was shocked and trying to claim he did not improve conditions of the stroke.

Strafaci handled it well during the interview.

I feel bad for Pinto - for an event like this, you need to rely on your college coach, assistant coach, swing coach, college teammate, family member.....someone that has been exposed to high level amateur play.

Many coaches or assistant coaches are at amateur events during the summer to support their players...even seen them caddie for them.

Normally I would agree but I think this course could be an exception where local knowledge could help a lot

Bones or Justin Leonard would praising a different player for making the smart decision of having local caddie earlier in the coverage. Feel terrible for the kid. That was hard to watch
