re: Wales is the only UK country to not host the Open. Allow me to argue on their behalf.

It's pathetic that Turnberry hasn't hosted in forever and we all know why.
R&A CEO sounded pretty open yesterday when talking about it. It’s way out in BFE and doesn’t have the infrastructure to host a quarter million people. Sounds like they’re open to working with Turnberry and the surrounding area to rectify that
But don’t let the facts get in the way of your outrage like a liberal woman

Yet somehow it hosted the Open 10 years ago…

For over 160 years, the UK Open has celebrated the finest traditions of the sport of golf, uniting fans and players on iconic links courses across the British Isles. From St Andrews to Royal St George's, from Troon to Royal Portrush, the rota honors the history of the game and its most challenging venues.
But there is one glaring omission: Wales has never hosted the Open Championship.
That's not just unfortunate — it's devoid of any fair explanation.
Wales is one of the four nations of the United Kingdom, and part of the island of Great Britain, which is the basis for the name of the "British" Championship. And yet, although Northern Ireland — which is not part of Great Britain geographically — hosted the championship, Wales never had the opportunity. This contradiction undermines the Championship's claim that it is a true representation of British golf.
And this is not because of a lack of a decent course. Porthcawl Royal Golf Club is a world-class links course, full of challenge and character. It has hosted the Walker Cup, the Amateur Championship, the Open (several times), and the Women's Open. Top players and critics alike have praised its wild winds, natural landscape, and dramatic setting above the Severn.
He has everything an Open Championship needs — except recognition from the R&A.
Wales has also proven its ability to host golf events of global importance. The 2010 Ryder Cup in Neath Port Talbot (Celtic Manor) was a logistical success and a fan favourite, despite the climate. The infrastructure, hospitality, and national enthusiasm already exist.
Beyond the technical case is the cultural case. Welsh golf has produced great winners such as Ian Woosnam, and has an enthusiastic and rapidly growing golfing community. Hosting the Open Championship would be a powerful recognition of that legacy, and an inspiration to the next generation of Welsh golfers.
This is not just about geography. It is about fairness. It is about completing the picture. It is about ensuring that a championship that claims to represent the best of British golf truly reflects the whole of Britain.
The rota has honored England, Scotland, and even Northern Ireland.
Isn't it time to give Wales the chance?

There was no popular player or anything back then
He is just being confrontational. The R&A hasn’t hid why turnberry has been passed over recently
They outright blamed it on trump statements as well as “the insurrection”

Every Open that has been played there has been Epic! They blame it on not having the infrastructure, but we all know why they won't include it. It's truly the best course in the UK.

Here’s the final and most compelling reason. “Nid yw Cymry byth yn ildio."
