What did you handicap do in the rounds following lessons?

I was about a 15 handicap for the past year, but i took 2 lessons to fix my swing (complete breakdown and rebuild.) since then I have gone up to a 19 handicap in the month following the lessons. Is that normal? I remember hearing that you will get worse after lessons and then everything starts to click. Does that sound right, or should i keep up with the lessons?

I feel like 2 lessons isn’t enough to re work body mechanics and muscle memory… but I’ve never had a lesson so probably not best suited to answer

definitely have more lessons in my future. Those two lessons alone changed my swing completely, I am certain it still needs a lot of work.

Yes, that is normal for a lot of people.
For me, I had to marry the mechanics of the driver swing to the irons. I feel like it all clicked totally yesterday, but my wedge game went to crap in the wetness
It'll all come together eventually.

Take it for what’s it’s worth, but to play golf you need to control low point. I went to lessons, read books, you name it… I started thinking externally on low point control and I went from about a 8-10 hdcp to currently a 3

Serious question. What is low point?

I struggle with it.
The “low point” for an iron shot should be 2-4 inches in front of the ball IF you are impacting the ball before the ground.
The “low point” for a driver is well before impact as you are allowing the club to move up into the ball.
IF you have tour club head speed, your driver can probably be minus 1 to level at impact, but for those of us in the 86mph range, we need the driver to start up well before impact and be about plus 4 at impact.
Control of low point means you are delivering the club to the same spot. With irons, it should be on the target side of the ball, with driver it’s behind the ball.

I believe for most players that do a total swing change their hcp will go up until the new swing works under pressure.

It really depends on several things.
How large are the changes you are trying to make?
If they feel very strange then it is gonna take a while and expect to score worse for a bit.
I think the best teaching pros are able to adequately assess how to give you the smallest necessary changes in proper lesson sequencing so that the issue you address is going to help you immediately.
Golf is much more palatable and learnable if you can only focus on one to two swing thoughts. You can make a lot of improvements quickly with preshot issues (proper grip, target selection and ability to align the club and then body properly, posture etc).
In my experience you can incorporate way more preshot changes than swing changes.
If you believe your pro and trust them, then you just need to commit to the process and take some lumps in the short term.
When my swing was in shambles I made the decision to spend a minimum of 50% (usually more) of range time working on chipping and putting. It really helped me take pressure off my full swing on the course.

Spend more time at the range and focus on 1 thing they told you for several swings. Then try to put them together. Lessons don’t fix swings lessons teach you how to fix your swing at the range.
