I've always wrote score down compared to par in the card.

+1 E E +1 E +2

Some people write the actual stroke counts

5 6 4 4 3 5 5

Which way do you do it? I like doing it the way I do it so that I can glance at the card and quickly see pars, bogies, birdies, etc. and get a feel of how the round is going.

Easier to see a bogie with a +1 rather than looking at the 5 and then checking to make sure it was a par4.

Easier to add up scores too.

Maybe just how my brain works.

I don't write scores down on most of my rounds. For the most part, I know where I'm at and what I did on each hole.

When I do write scores, I do numbers. If I'm feeling fancy, I'll do circles and boxes.

I do both. I write down the full score and then my match play score below (i.e., as a 16hc, if I tripled the 1stroke hole, I’d write down +2).

I tend to notice my better playing friends stick to actual stroke counts and the hackers (myself included) score compared to the par.

This is the official way to score a round of golf. if you are in a tournament and you have +1EE+1+2 you will be d/qed

Obvioiusly I don't expect everyone to abide by every rule of golf to a T but figured if you do play in a tourney that is one thing you won't have to worry about.

I like E,1,1 circled

But our regular game calls for official scoring. I write 4,5,3 but I’m the top corner keep a running count relative to par so adding the score at the end is easier.

If it’s a tournament, I write the actual strokes. If it’s a weekend round with the boys I write + or -

I write the full score for each hole, but when I go to add it up I tally +/- par for each hole. So if it’s a par 4 and I have 5 +I count 1, a 3 -1, etc…. Then I add my total above or to par on the scorecard and that’s what I shot

I try not to know what my score is in round and I find it easier not to know if I do it this way, although that doesn’t always work I often know anyway

I do it the way you do (1, -, 1, -1....... etc)

People, not in a tournament, that write the actual numbers down then spend 5 minutes trying to add everything up at the turn and end really bother me.

The way you show is by far the easiest way, but I use that method on the bottom row; on the top row, where my name is, I use the numbers. I use both to calculate my score and compare to ensure my actual score corresponds.

I used to play that way, but now want to know my score. I get get focused when the score starts adding up. Sometimes I do stupid shite and compound my problem. Most of the time, I start thinking about making oars and knowing where I can go get a birdie or two to end the day.

I usually end up knowing my score, especially when I’m only a few over par it’s hard not to. I just find I play better when I’m not worried about scoring and just about hitting shots and I do that more when I am not focussed on the score

I write the real score down since that is how it had to be done when I played competitively in HS. Just got used to it. I generally have the under or over par in my head anyway, as long as it's respectable.

And I only circle the under pars. No boxes for over pars. Ain't nobody got time for all that.

I use the Grint app to track scoring, so when I'm on the course I'll mark the hole score and below it number of putts. There's an official way to mark GIR and FIR and putts all on the same square but that's too much for me when I'm 10 beers deep on the back nine.

Usually just input on the Golf Logix app, so I'm not writing anything down.

But if I do write on an actual scorecard, I prefer to write the full score, just so that one day, god willing, I can write a 1 down after an ace.

That's how I do it, too. I also set it up to not show my total score as I play. It could be a coincidence, but my scores have dropped as I have stopped worrying about what I am shooting during the round.

I do have a small fear sometimes that I get fat fingers and input the wrong score, though.

I write the actual score in one row, and just below it I write the number of putts I had on that hole. Forget how I started the putts thing, but it definitely helps to glance down and see how my putting is going for that round.

I used to use the -1,—,+1 system, but a guy I was playing with one time had a hole In one and I wrote it out as -2. He framed it and I always felt bad because it just looks odd compared to the actual scores.
