BLUF: I’m getting positional vertigo after hard workouts. I’ve narrowed it down to dehydration and need suggestions for electrolyte supplements.

Long story.

I’ve made major lifestyle improvements. This includes a much heavier workout schedule and a relatively low carb diet.

After hard workouts, I am getting very dizzy when standing. It is orthastatic hypotension. I have had that confirmed medically with a blood pressure cuff as it is happening.

I’ve ruled out all causes except dehydration. I’m drinking plenty of water, and my pee doesn’t show dehydration. So I think it must be electrolytes.

Because I’ve been eating clean, I don’t want to drink Gatorade or anything else with dyes and crap in it.

Is there a good electrolyte supplement that doesn’t have that drawback?

LMNT's ingredients look like they fit that criteria.

It's pricey, though. I use Nuun every now and then.

ETA: Nuun is on sale on Amazon right now. Mixed Citrus 40 serving pack for $15.99.

Yeah, there are a ton of products out there that are 10-15 calories per 16oz, like Hydralyte. A little bit of sugar, a little bit of salt. Personally, the default serving size is too sweet for me, so I use half the recommended amount. The combo of sugar and salt is supposed to help with uptake.

I did notice that if I didn't include any salt in any form, I would guzzle gallons of water without being satiated. Back then, I'd just put a pinch of Celtic Grey sea salt in a 32 oz bottle of water, and it helped.

LMNT posted their recipe online if you want to make your own to save a little money. Recipe

Another option (although lower on sodium) is the Emergen-C packets. I throw 1 or 2 of those in a 20oz shaker with 10g creatine for my workouts.

I switched from LMNT to Tru Labs Hydrate. Same stuff much cheaper. I get it at Wal Mart.

Cut by half under doctor’s supervision. I’m not all the way there yet on fitness. I’m hoping to get off.

My BP started to go high during a major health crisis with a family member some years ago. I was working more than full time, a caregiver when I wasn’t working, and raising two kids by myself. It was a bit difficult.

I put on some weight during that time.

The stress issues are resolved, and I think if I can drop more weight I’ll be able to get off meds completely.

Morton's low sodium salt is 50% potassium chloride and 50% sodium chloride. Mix an equal part of it with regular table salt for a ratio of 3 parts sodium chloride to 1 part potassium chloride. The potassium and sodium are roughly 40% by weight and chloride the other 60%. You want 1000mg of sodium and potassium per liter of water you sweated away. So That's going to be around 2500 mg of your mix. That's a little less than 1/2 a teaspoon. Put it in your water and drink.

This has already been said, but you can add salt to water to Replenish electrolytes just look up the ratio. Also, if you were doing heavy workouts, low carb may not be the way to go.

We go through 2-4 nuuns every day in our household. We spend $60-70 a month on it.
