Any suggestions on dealing with “crashing” or “hangry issues?
Been doing IF for a while but a couple hours before eating I just fall off the edge.

Lots of water & electrolytes helped me when I did IF. Drank my fair share of coffee too. What’s your eating window?

5pm-7:30.
Not eating till 5pm is easy but by 3pm I’m planning the destruction of the planet. Good thing, I am retired and wife (no pics) still works so by the time she gets home I am already eating and not as On the Edge.
But from 3-5 I am a complete dick internally and sometime externally. Lol

Maybe you’re eating too many carbs?

Damn. So you’re pretty much doing one meal a day (OMAD)?

I was doing 18:6 last year and just that was tough. Now I usually start eating at 430am before gym or immediately after. I need to get back to shutting down intake after 5-6p though. Those late evening bowls of fruit & yogurt are slowing me down

When you start to get that sense of hunger or urge to eat try and take a few moments to observe how you feel. Essentially you're trying to become a little more present.

I try to redirect my attention to how my body is feeling. My gut, muscles, breathing, etc. What usually happens in those few moments is that the urge to eat fades. You'll likely have to do this throughout your fast but over time fasting becomes easier.

It really is all a mind game. No surprise, my hunger issues usually spike around the times I eat when I'm not fasting. The idea is to shift your focus just long enough until that urge to eat subsides. Cheers

Too many carbs?
I may need to experiment with that idea.
BTW, I do exercise (walking) along with some light weight work 6 days a week.
When I am trying to maintain my weight, I will eat whatever I want during those 2.5 hours. I mean anything.
If I am trying to lose some weight I reduce the carbs which I am about to do starting Monday. Post Super Bowl eating.
I will check to see if lowering carbs helps with my hanger issues.

More protein/fat = less cravings

Another thing I would do when I started to get hungry, was move around. Get up and take a walk.

This'll depend on what parameters you've set for yourself, but I'd say add some things to that last meal before you fast.
You could try more slow-digesting proteins and carbohydrates. (Based on what I've read, I'd try to avoid A1 casein.)
If you're restricting your carbohydrates, you could try adding more healthy fats. I like to do heavy whipping cream in coffee sometimes, and I've noticed when I add more than I usually do, my hunger is kept at bay longer. But I also usually have carbohydrates with coffee.

You looking for something try its that Laird Hamilton coconut coffee creamer.

You drink some coffee with that in it in the morning and got no problem holding out to lunch or later.

Cuts the acid in that coffee and does something to cut the hunger.

Don't ask me how it works but I heard about it and tried it and been on it for a year.

This just seems unrealistic. Perhaps you should shift your window to something more long-term sustainable?

So I hired a coach back in September, I just couldn't get the results I was looking for on my own. His thing is OMAD and 48 hour fast once per week. I started Day 1 on a 48 hour fast. You do get over the hump. Just deal with it and it will pass. The more you do it easier it gets. I shed fat like never before. Wasn't as strong but my workouts felt great and energetic.

Best part was no calorie counting, no worry about macros etc. I just trusted him and it worked. I just started back on his plan. Been half assing since before the holidays.

Glad it’s working for you. I was doing 36-48 hr fasts occasionally last year and it was easier than I expected. I was even doing morning workouts during the fast, prob not my smartest move. But the scale shot down like crazy which was my goal then.

I’ve upped my protein, lowered my fat (as a result, nothing super intentional), and drink coffee until early afternoon and water (with electrolytes) all day. I don’t crash at all. I’ll eat some carbs when eating out, especially Mexican (chips and soft corn tortillas) or when doing something really strenuous. Otherwise very low carb intake.

The other day, I broke routine big time and ate a breakfast sandwich and a cold cut sandwich at a retreat and was pretty hungry by my normal “breakfast” time (3-4 pm). But back to my normal routine the next day.

Another thing I have found is that my brain has stopped thinking a slight hunger feeling had to be satiated immediately. Being a little hungry for a few hours actually feels good now.

Replying to 5-730 doesn’t seem sustainable.
I actually find it easy now. Been doing it this was for a few years, lost weight and now maintaining.
I do provide flexibility in it. But if I need/want to drop 5-10 I will stick with above times and eat pretty clean. Lowering carbs.
My weight is down, cholesterol down but a couple days a week, my brain just gets mad.
It’s 340pm now and I feel great. Tomorrow may be different and was hoping for a couple of ideas. That’s all. Thanks already for the suggestions
